The brilliant brother of Samart, Kongtoranee. Gave Khaosai a very hard fight and also went the distance with Gilberto Roman and beat Payao Poontarat in his debut! Here he is as a Nak Muay. Nice stoppage. 5 time Lumpinee champ over a few different weights. Well 2544 was 11 years ago. Nakon Pathom is only a 45 min bus trip from BKK so easy to sort out. Wat Bang Pla is a common name for a Temple, but if you went to the temple Pha Pathom Chedi the famous Stupa in centre of Nakon Pathom town you'd be able to find someone that spoke English maybe , (if you don't speak Thai?). If he was an abbot in the province they'd be able to point you in the right direction to Wat Bang Pla. But beware guys can ordain for only a week and then leave. A monk can leave at anytime. However if he is an abbot then he's running things at more than one Temple, that's why I doubt he's an abbot, the translation isn't clear on that bit. It take years to become an abbot. "Thai beauty Tabetea" This bit I don't get. Possible sweet heart from before he ordained?!?!
I remember that 1st clip of Kongtoranee fighting the Dutchman from maybe the early or mid 90s? I had a video tape of the whole event and it wasn't easy to get Muay Thai VDOs in the early 90s, I think maybe Dekkers or Kamen fought on the same event, can't remember but is was a big line up of Thais and Dutch. Brings back great memories especially the Trevor Berbick legs of the Dutchcman. Thanks Flea great stuff I love Vids form that era, the Young samart one is :thumbsup
When you next go you should let me know and I can put you in contact with that guy I mentioned before and tell him your writing a book and he'll help. Or even if you go alone to Nakon Pathom armed with a photo of him at the temple you may get lucky. You know how helpful Thais can be.
Yes, Thai's are the kindest people I've ever come across. And yes, young Samart :bowdown Very annoying is that when I've asked about 'Borkorsor' I'm obviously directed to the local bus station or national bus service ;-)
Boran excuse me for asking but are you with your missus at the mo'? Could I send you the Thai, and of so would she be able to tell you more accurately what it says? Forgive me if I've stepped out of line asking :good
I've also heard the guys at Lok Muay speak a bit of English and are pretty approachable. I have no idea what their archives are like though!
