Boranbkk; eternally grateful :bowdown I had a feeling Saensak was 'gone' by that point.

Maybe the first fighter is Kongtonaree? He works as a ref' on the corner of Walking Street I've read :think

Again, What an insight. I believe Saensak was married to an actress, and she was out of league and bleeding him dry. Harsh reality for boxers of many nationalities.

Thanks for a spiritual insight as well, the Thai's are very superstitious people. We've all seen the Fanta bottles with colourful straws and what not ;-)

As for American's, I'm pretty sure his epic war (sadly not filmed) with Monroe Brooks was the end of his career at the top really. That drained te last of his physical prime away from what I can gather.

Really mate, not to sound gushing but I really appreciate your insights on these forum, about a subject close to my heart. Top man :thumbsup

You guys will probably know that Muay Thai went on a bit of a tour in the 60s and 70s (the consensus 'golden era' if I'm not mistaken) and more often that note beat the **** out of everyone.

I have a small mention of Saensak in an old article from 'Black Belt' magazine, that in the 70s he fought a Taekwondo black belt famed for having killed someone. Saensak beat him up and blasted him with a headkick inside a few minutes ;-)

Source and quote? Will be in the book :tong

There is also a clip out there somewhere from Hong Kong where 5 Thai boxers where matched with 5 Kung fu fighters from possibly around the same time or maybe the same trip. But what's classic about it is a 5 fights end in KO and the combined ring action time is some thing mad like 1min 30!

That does look exactly like the corner just before you get the pedesrianized part of Walking St. (Looks like you and me have some how accidently wandered into the same den's of iniquity :yikes I get lost way to often in Thailnd, funnt that!).

In the video it does mention Saensek's marrige to a famous actress.

Glad to help, I'm learning alot in this thread myself. :good

By the way in terms of research many gyms and fighters have video of old fights and events that maynot have found their way onto Youtube and the same with the older Thai TV networks, some thing to chase up Flea, although our freind
    This content is protected
seems to keep finding golden oldies!

Vic you keep finding all these great old clips, I haven't seen alot of these, brilliant.:good

What a text book low kick. Pretty impressive if you consider that's only the second round against a fellow conditioned well Thai. Must have landed perfectly and done some really damage.

Funny the thing, the other fella was countering well with his own kicks.

Hey Vic. The trouble with Thai is that it needs to be romanised and different people romaise it in different ways. You could try Apisit or Apidet, or Apidit. Sithiun don't split the syllabls with a hypen. Even on the road signs you get different spellings on the same road in at different ends in Thailand. No one has decided on the difinitive romaisation, as differnt foeigners have learnt Thia with very different romanistations, but try the variations I mentioned above.

Also something to remember when writing Thai names v are pronounced as w and l as r and vica versa.

Yep, so Kongtongaree is probably closer to Gongtonalee.

For example, chicken is spelt Kai. But it's pronounced Gai.

You can search in English on Thai Wikipedia, Vic. Then you can get the names of the fighter in Thai and google that, might bring up some different stuff?
