As that big fight card happened at Lumpinee last week like with Sam A a few posts ago thought I should post this highlight of Nong-O Gaiyanghaadao. I know he lost the fight the other night, but he is and has been a great fighter. The reason for the post is to show case his defensive skills that are very evident in this highlight by Samkor 51. Check out his amazingly natural attack anticipation, his superb blocking with his legs and great well timed counters. I think worthy of an ATG thread. :smooch This content is protected
Ben Edwards has a huge heart and enormous self-belief :good You could see at the staredown prior to the opening bell that he was there to win. He got straight on the front foot and delivered plenty, but Reem hit him with sledgehammer like blows that would have knocked anyone down. Props to Ben for getting up keen to continue, but Reem is an absolute beast.
Here’s something for the weekend. Not sure if we've done these two guys already on this tread, if we have sorry. Tadashi Sawamura and Toshio Fujiwara. Both pioneers of "kickboxing" outside Thailand in the early days, 60s-70s. Both from a Karate background but definitely picked up some MT skills along the way. I realise Tadashi Sawamura’s record has been a bit tainted with so called "soft" fights against Thais in Japan, and things have been said about the passiveness and skills of the Thai fighting Fujiwara in the clip below. But one thing’s for sure they could fight, were pretty ballsy fighting Thais early on in Kickboxing history and both won stadium belts. Flea's **** hot on the Japs he may be able to add more about these guys. Tadashi Sawamura in the Red corner (This looks like one of his “soft” fights): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fg4DxeuVvzI Toshio Fujiwara in the Blue corner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=OrVsiUG64wY http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Ate40WFoCW4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=6dMw-H0Q9-s
By the way lads how come when I post clips now, they come up as links not images? They used to come as images.:conf
Sawamura was inflated IMO. Clearly brilliant though. But that record is aesthetically pleasing but whilst famous, he's not one of the 'greats' IMO. There's a fight I've seen where he smashes a no-hoper with a flying knee. But the guy he was fighting was much too small and unskilled.
Nice link about Penek..... http://www.muaythaifocus.com/interviews/penek-sitnumnoi-2011-boxer-year/#more-237
Yep, that website is run by an old mate of mine, Rob Cox. I used to train with him in the UK and it was him who encouraged me to go out to BKK in the first place all those years ago. To me he's a legend, he's devoted his life to Muay Thai, he doesn't know it but I feel I owe him alot. You know when you see all the fights from the stadiums in BKK and you see a big skinhead white guy on the ring apron, well that's Rob. He was a good trainer and fighter to boot. he knows everyone and everything MT. (He took the avy photo and the previous Penek elbow avy). Thanks Vic.:good
