I have both the McGowan fights....the Scot' is getting the better of both, even has Chionoi down a few times early in the first, but Chionoi's resolve and McGowan's skin are his undoing twice.

Well worth a watch...McGowan was ace. As I say, Chionoi is elevated due to these two wins...McGowan and his father took the losses humbly, even bowing to the King.

Chionoi won those fights, even if the loser applied himself better than him twice!

I trust your opinion and you've given me far too much food for thought to fully digest here, I'll have to go back and read it a few times check out a load of the fights you mention that I've never seen. Thanks Flea brilliant!!:good:good

All I can say is when the book comes it's gonna be one hell of a read. It's the kind of book all boxing fans in the west should and must read to understand the pedigree of boxing in the east, an area most boxing fans know so little about!

    Can't wait.

It's definitely one of the most fun areas of boxing to research as well.

A lot more to find out yet though :yikes

I'm very skeptical about the no MT background at all. I'd imagine Chartchai only had access to a MT gym when he was youngster and started out. Pure boxing gyms are very hard to come by even now in modern day Bangkok let alone rural Thailand. IMO I'd suggest Chartchai saying he didn't like MT training means he participated to start with maybe at a very very young age 6,7,8 maybe had no a or a few child bouts and left the sport and came back as a boxer in his teens? Seems very very odd that he never stepped foot in an MT gym cosidering his era. :think

This leads me onto the next bit.....

Spot on Flea. A good example of this is the a guy I've mentioned before Saohin Srithai Condo, aka Saohin Sor Thanikul, aka Saohin N-Yoko, who in his prime took Paulie Ayala 12 hard rounds and once he should have been long retired took an up and coming Jorge Linares 10 rounds with a detached retina.

When he was fighting out of Sor Thanikul it was a pure a MT gym. He was the only Western boxer training there (he had fallen out with the Galaxy gym and the redbull crew), so all his sparring was with MT fighters that had good hands or the occasional westerner that came through that could box a bit. The head trainer a great MT coach was Ajan Bueng took him on the mitts, not a specalist boxing trainer. He was totally surrounded by MT so it's just soaked up and absorbed whether like it or not. Most western boxers in Thailand are in the same boat unless they find themselves poached by the few dedcated sponsers or gyms. Things have changed abit, but pure boxing gyms are still a rarity in Thailand.

Very nice info', will have to check more of him out :good

As for Chionoi, he was a cadet of some sort. Could it be that fist fighting was only taught there? :think

Yeah, that is possible if he got into it as a cadet. He very well may have never fancied it as a child, but got his first intro to the fight game via the armed services.

    That does make sense.

Just to get back on the Muay Thai track after our quality and apperciated minor detour.;)

A nice KO from Lumpinee last week thanks to Muaydeet channel and MT focus. @106lbs

Niwlukrak Eksindeekon Gym (Red) vs Withayalek Jaroenthammarak (Blue).

17 year old Withayalek apprently a watched up and coming contender (another southerner:lol: form Nakon C) getting tested by the soild punching of the 22 year old Niwlukrak from Surin.

R.I.P Thantong Kiattaweesuk, no.1 contender for the IBF 122lb title. Only fought a few weeks ago, died today in a car accident. I read he was a former Thai champion who became a top class amateur boxer and as of today was obviously a decent contender. Wife and two kids died as well. Terrible news.
