Petrosyan is one of the best kickboxers to ever live. I wish he had fought in K-1 just a few years earlier when he could have been more challenged(he entered the tournament for the first time in 2009). Now it seems he will have to move up in weight to be challenged in kickboxing.

Tyler, as word selection seems to be becoming important here, he cleaned out his divison in "Kickboxing" only. His MT record is questinable, he seems to be uninterested in fighting Thais full Thai Rules depsite claiming a Muay Thai pedigree. I'm sure you must be familiar with Kurt Sloane right? Tong Po, Tong Po, Tong Po........ That leads me onto your avatar, not the best selection for Kickboxer Petro considering he's wearing a Mongkol............

Al last I’m “Home” watching ATG greats in the Muay Thai ATG thread! It feels great, all warm and cosy! And you guys have given us some brilliant top class matchups. Really great posts Yaca and Stormy, particularly the insane Kaensak v Wisaklek WARRRRRR which surely has to be a mainstay of any Muay Thai ATG thread. Also, quite rightly Lamnamoon gets his rightful place on the thread, good call guys, ‘‘Telephone pole knees” I love it, only in Thailand!!!

Both the clips, Kaensak vs Lamnamoon & Karuhat vs Lamnamoon are very very interesting to watch back to back, cos the basic overall strategy of both the smaller guys is very similar but executed to different standards highlighting the godlike superiority of Kaensak that for me puts him on that tier just above elite ATG, super elite ATG :hail. To me Kaensak deals with Lamnamoon in an almost elusive way to the point it didn’t feel close, although Lamnamoon physically pushed him hard and I reckon Kaensak was a bit gassed in the 4th and need every ounce of focus, technique and grit to hold things together. In Karuhat fight, the usually very crafty veteran although getting the win made a bit of a meal of this rematch (he lost the 1st fight) largely because he missed one crucial main ingredient that Kaensak had.

I know like Diesel Noi, Lamnamoon is a bit special and more than just a knee specialist, but I think to be honest most knee specialist are pretty one dimensional, you know what they’re gonna bring once the **** hits the fan. They tend to be very very strong, durable and relentless. Hard to handle, walking through hellfire, spoiling & smothering until they can grab you & break you with sharp powerful knees, usually making for an exhausting & hellish fight. The “how to control a rampaging taller badass Thai ATG knee specialist” blueprint must be one of the toughest MT scenarios to implement, but was cleverly put into effect, particularly in the Kaensak fight.

Knee specialist always want to close the range and walk you down as soon as possible, and hence are constantly advancing with their body tilted forward, their head ahead of their hips for power and balance with their fists held slightly higher and further away from their head and body than a more traditional all round MT fighter would have, basically because they wanna grab you. This slightly different hand positioning and constant forward movement was viciously exploited by both Kaensak and Karuhat with short, cutting elbows down the middle as well as uppercuts and hooks. Both of the smaller guys were forced to fight Lamnamoon on the back foot, and this for me is where the crucial but slight difference between Karuhat’s and Kensak’s handleing of the fight is highlighted.

To me Karuhat made the fight into more of a war than it had to be, by holding his ground at times, exchanging and choosing on occasion to clinch with a quality bigger and stronger man, a lot of Thai bravado was on display. But to me the biggest “mistake” Karuhat made was when he backed up he did it in straight lines. Now, Thais spend hours each week pacing up and down a gym in straight lines working their knees and constantly going forward. This is done as a basic warm up, a shadow box routine pre sparring, a round filler if there is no space on a bag or the pads, it’s basically done at every spare oppurnity. So Karuhat was making life easier for Lamnamoon to deploy his greatest weapons to maximum effect allowing him to walk in, grab Karuhat and get set to launch powerful knees, hence making a harder night of it. Kaensak never allowed that. He used great footwork to back up and then side step with all sorts of angles rather than backing up in a staright line as Karuhat did, thus not allowing Lamnamoon to walk in and get set to throw his knees, basically negating Lamnamoon’s ace cards. If only Penek had watched this Kaensak fight before he fought Sagatdao earlier this year I wonder……..:think

Some may argue the Karuhat fight was more exciting to watch, maybe, but the degree of difficulty that Kaensak displayed by sticking to his game plan so classily off the back foot under such pressure was great to watch considering the calibre of ATG he was up against. One note on the Karuhat fight, the commentator mentioned that the 1st Rd cut needed 5 stitches, the 2nd Rd cut 6 stitches and the 3rd Rd cut 7 stiches, so 18 stiches in 3 rounds……gotta luv elbows.:scaredas: I think Lamnamoon did pretty well under the circumstances, his face was shredded and if anyone is in doubt about his true ATG status just reread this paragraph Yaca posted form Rob Cox’s Bio:

Yaca’s second clip Kaensak vs Wisaklek..……a thing of beauty:love………what can anyone say other than……..HEART…… and that’s why we love the sport . Long live the golden age. It should be compulsory watching for very student that every walks into a Muay Thai gym. Fighting’s all about heart, you either got it or you ain’t!

Insane 2nd round in the Langsuan fight with Charoensap’s super human will & powers of recovery on display again and under such ferocious ATG hellfire. Gives the above Kaensak come back a run for is money. Never a dull moment in Lumpinee eh fellas…..:yep

Diamond translates as Pet and is common in a lot of fighter’s names used kind of like Sugar or Boom Boom in the west as a common add-on to a name. There is an old Muay Thai saying about great fighters being like diamonds that take years to craft. Other common add- ons are Yod meaning greatest, think Yod-Sanklai, Yod-Decha etc . You also see Lek or Noi, both basically meaning small or little, think Diesel Noi or Super-Lek for example.

The 2nd Charoensap vs Samson fight……. Let’s say that again……. Charoensap vs Samson, it just screams heavy metal WAAAAARRRRRRRRR and as you say turned into master class of clinch and knee work to the highest standard, by two masters. :dealThink how intense one round of that is let alone 5 with increasing pace…. Gruelling, hellish, gut check, war, all these things rolled into one…..frighteningly magnificent to watch. The older Samson (25) did amazingly well against the much bigger and stronger Charoensap (20). Pretty hardcore to push a guy for 5 rounds in the clinch when he’s a naturally a bigger stronger guy and a fellow ATG to boot!! :bowdown

I was looking for some more Charoensap clips on my Youtube channel and remembered this showing Langsuan form the 1st clip at a lighter weight. It’s an interesting clip of another favourite warrior of ours Chamuekpet Hapalang in action against Langsuan. Another good fight that turns into again a gruelling gut check of clinches and knee work. But this clip is interesting for another reason. You know I’ve mentioned Thailand’s biggest godfather Mr Klao Thanikul that owned Sor Thanikul gym and basically the Thai MT scene at the time, well he’s the big guy in the brown shirt at the beginning with Songchai and a load of other dubious characters. Remember I said there is VDO of a hand grenade being thrown ringside in a fight…….well it’s not this clip but it’s almost as insane, notice at the end of the fight when Dieselnoi dressed in the red of his buddy Chamuekpet jumps in the ring on the left (8.50) he looks around and then everyone ducks as shots are fired…………………………………………:scaredas::scaredas::scaredas:.

You don’t get that kind of action Ringside at K-1.

I know he’s probably not an ATG in the traditional sense, but I reckon he deserves a shout on this thread. Kaoklai a 2 time Rajadamnern champ, once at Welter and once at Superwelter as well as loads of other accolades on the international scene including a K1 championship and a WBC championship. However, the real reason I’m putting him up for ATG status on the thread is his utter commitment to fight at any weight even if the opponent outweighs him by

and his attitude to take the fight in true Thai style to any giant put in front of him, absolutely insane but a highly skilled warrior! I admit his record on paper is patchy, but if you consider the uneven insane obstacles he’s had to overcome in many match ups, it’s understandable! The poor guy a freak of nature by being born unusually big for a Thai, and forever hence cursed to go beyond the normal call of duty of any fighter and be Thailand’s David to the World’s Goliaths!

To me an special case ATG and Thai national treasure! :bowdown

Kaensak elusiveness was key in that matchup vs Lamnamoon. Particulary from that 3rd round on kaensak followed a perfect gameplan. Hit first hard with right uppercuts, elbows, knees and left hooks in combination then almost always would immeditly turn his opponent before he could counter. Kaensak always used good movement to his advantage but this is a special performance. The series of punches starting from 5:53(third gif) with that uppercut maybe Lamnamoon doesn’t have the best chin but it certainly can absorb some hard shots. Lamnamoon had his moments too landing a hard counter elbow in the second round and good knees and kicks throughout the fight.

All these Gifs are from the 3rd round a very good round for Kaensak though Lamnamoon tried to be competitive....

Was someone actually shot at the end of the Chamuekpet vid? Damn that some crazy **** I dont want to even think about the incedent with a hand grenade being thrown into the crowd.

What you said about knee specialist being predicable and one dimensional I agree with but two clear exceptions to this are the two fighters in the video you posted Langsuan vs Chamuekpet. both are knee specialist but both carry power in their fist and can slug it out if need be as we have seen before. Chamuekpet in particular was very good at just about everything. Langsuan I need to see more footage of but he was a warrior indeed. One thing I get bored of is clinching with clinch control being the primary concern over damaging the opponent this wasnt the case here. Good fight.

Also if noi means "little" than what is little about Dieselnoi?
