ESB Brit forum all-time British Welterweight list.

Going waaay back, Tommy West is worth a mention. Amongst his better results are a win and a draw versus the peerless Barbados Joe Walcott as well as a draw with Mysterious Billy Smith. A Welshman, he's probably the most underated Brit in history.

Basically they don't have his British record. Theres another absolutley cracking British fighter named Jimmy Carroll who has the same "problem" - he goes to the US, mixes it up with the very best - into his forties, mind - but doesn't have the appearence of longevity because his British record doesn't exist. Then I find out his reputation has him unbeaten in British bare knuckle fights at his weight - in other words, he was one of the best lightweights in the world for three ****ing decades. Likely one of the best in British history, too.

West will be similar though I haven't done any real leg work on him. Funnily, I was writing about him on Classic just this morning, his epic MW title fight with Tommy Ryan, which is probably one of the best of the pre-filmed title fights. He was a counter-pressure fighter and one of the very tuoghest fighters i've ever read about, bar none. Check out the thread if you get a moment, the pasting he absorbed was insane. He also took rounds from Ryan, possibly the best pre-Greb fighter bar Fitz.
