The BBC Boxing Hour is currently only avalible in London yet manages to recieve huge download figures on iplayer and itunes. The highest rated show on BBC London radio I beleive. Its time the show was given a national platform on Radio 5 Live which would increase its auduince and help with the overall popularity of the sport in this country. Currently we have the sporadic 5Live Boxing show 10x a year which recieves no advertising, podcast and therefore cannot gain momentum to push the sport.

So how can we help I hear you cry....send an email like our usual campaigns??? Well currently the BBC Trust our running a review of BBC5Live and 5Live Extra.

    They state that

"At the BBC Trust it is our responsibility to get the best out of the BBC for licence fee payers. One of the ways we do this is by carrying out an in-depth review of each of the BBC’s services at least once every five years. This time we are looking at 5 Live and 5 Live Sports Extra.
As part of our review, we’re asking you to tell us what you think about these stations."

This seems to be the perfect opportunity to push the Boxing Hour to a bigger platform.

They will be running an online survey until the 13th of July. It has 13 questions. Alternitavley you can send a specific email to

    Online Survery

This is a major opportunity to get Boxing back onto a national radio platform on a weekly basis. They are asking for our opinions and suggestions so this is the best chance we have.

In the 3 minutes it takes you to make a thread about Amir Khan having no chin and Floyd Mayweather being a chicken, you can get fill out the questionaire.

Thanks to everyone that takes the time to do it.

Everytime I start one of these campaigns you get a bunch of twats coming on and saying it will never work and we will never listen. Please note the 3 other campaigns I started on this forum all had success.

    Get Froch back on Sky

I am in no way claiming responsibilty but we did have a small, very small part to play and got a response to the campaign from Carl on his twitter account.

    Get Choi in Prizefighter

Choi was in Prizefighter. The day the campaign started we recieved responses from Matchrooms matchmaker and well wishes from Spencer Fearon Choi's promoter. Eddie & Barry Hearn have specificly mentioned the ESB campaign to get him in.

US Promoters show us your fights

This lead to regular email contact with members of Gary Shaws team and email contact with staff at Golden Boy, DiBella Entertainment and Goosen Tutor. All email contacts were pass on to Premier Sports who have shown cards promoted by the companys above.

    It will never work.

Can't believe you are taking full credit for getting Froch on Sky...

Good spot this Rob everybody on this forum needs to do this after all is it too much to ask to have one hour of boxing coverage across the entire BBC a week?

Hmm I dunno. I'd love there to be a national boxing hour again every week (and for it to be on TV) but I really like the way the BBC London one is done at the moment. If it was on 5 Live, it'd be cut in to tiny pieces to break away to whatever live sports on at the time as well as regular news and weather breaks. Then what we'd have left would be filtered and wouldn't be as natural as it's going out to a bigger audience. Some of the beauty of Bunce's radio shows are that it's only for boxing fans listening.

But I'm all for more boxing on mainstream stations for sure so I'll get that view put across too :good

Its not like Bunce's show doesn't have news and traffic updates interrupting it anyway often it doesn't even start until 10 past!

That's true but I still know what I mean.

And it kind of is a problem for me. I nearly always catch the 5 live hours and most of the time, it ain't even Buncey speaking for starters.

Last time it was on I think all I heard was Ian Payne jizzing over de la Hoya whilst Oscar himself got a boner over Amir Khan for about 45 minutes.

No offence to that because as I said it's a national show. Casual listeners will want to hear from superstars like de la Hoya and Calzaghe etc. They won't want to hear a Bunce rant about someone like Tye Fields.

Completed the survey. Tried to push a boxing show but also filled it in fairly honestly.

Theres obviosuly an audience for a more domestic based boxing show as the listen again and download figures are "phenominal"

You do make a point that if it were to be on 5live it would be a more diluted version of what we already have but I think it would be great to have the fighters from the week before/coming SFN talking about fights getting the awareness out again of domestic champions.

Oh yeah absolutely. It'd be great to get the show out there to be more listeners and create interest in the sport. I just meant from a personal point of view more than anything.
