Since I have been out of the ESB loop for sometime and would rather not have to sift through the "archives," what was the general ESB consensus on who was the rightful winner of the Calz-BHop showdown? I just got around to watching the fight earlier this past week. Hoops PS- No overt Calz or BHop nuthuggers, please. And no Arran either, on general principles (ie-- he's an a-hole).
B-Hop. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60545&highlight=ESBers P.S. Nice to see you again, you fine patriot, you.
Calzaghe by 3 rounds, I'm a Brit but not a Calzaghe fan in particular (I don't know why I felt to include that disclaimer!!).
I had Joe up by three rounds also. The punch output of Joe was obviously the difference in the fight especially late in the fight. Will be interesting to see a rematch.
How's it going, hoopsman? :good I had Hopkins winning 114-113. No problem with the official decision. It was a competitive fight. I would love to see a rematch.
calzaghe by 2-3 rounds. hokins was landing the cleaner and harder shots, but they were to few and far inbetween. calzaghe's activity was the difference maker.
Basically the Joe haters and a few B-Hop die hards had B-Hop winning. It was a close fight for the most part with several rounds scoring being open for debate. I think the most popular reading was 7-5 to Joe with 8-4 Calzaghe or 6-6 (and therefore a win for Hopkins) both being popular, either of which I can see being within reason. A few had it 9-3 Calzaghe which I think is being generous to Joe.
8-4 Calzaghe. BHOP did nothing after the 4th round of note. He didn't really affect Joe with his power afterwards as well, unless you count a headbutt as a legal scoring punch. And even then, Calzaghe blazed through hunting Hopkins quickly. Just like with the RJJ fight, it doesn't matter if you're making the "apparently harder" shots if the punches don't really hurt the guy and he's hitting you back two-threefold and making you gasp for breath.
