Success in sport is often about small details and timing and Boxing is no different. A step the one way like Khan against Maidana and he gets hit with a hellacious shot that could of lost him the fight.

That's just one example of how the sport can change on one naive step the wrong way.

The discussion is about moments that changed a fighters career for the better or worse. A big moment that was a turning point..

    Example Question:
-In your opinion: Would Haye of gone on to become a two weight world champion if he didn't regain his focus and legs against Mormeck. Ie. If he lost that night would he of bounced back to be the success he has as a boxer. Not salesman ..

You can raise a moment in a fight that you think changed a career and why?

-Ricky Burns vs Martinez: The KD came at the right time for Ricky, after the count 28 seconds to go. Ricky looked nervy and edgy but not overly hurt just buzzed and shocked by it all after a nice start to the fight. Now if that came earlier in the round would we be talking about Ricky as a two weight world champion. He adjusted brilliantly from that round onwards and took it to Martinez. Getting to the corner and settling down done him world of good.

-Marquez surviving a torrid first round against Pacquiao. If he stayed down on the 3rd KD would Marquez not only of become what he has adding more and more titles but also the epic series that continues this weekend against Manny.

Those small details, the moments which at the time seem not so signifigant end up hinging a career IMO.

    :good.

Jermain Taylor gassing in the 12th and Froch managing to finish him off changed Froch's career for the better.

Made America take notice and opened up the doors for the super 6.

What would of happened to Lennox if he had beaten McCall the first time, and not changed trainer to Manny?

Gary Buckland if he hadnt of chinned sykes in prizefighter. He was seen as a good solid pro but nothing special but after that he has been seen as a beast at that weight.

Jamie McDonnell not getting the dodgy decision against Napa. On a charge since then and everything seems to have clicked.

Lee Selby. From nothing to a beast at 2.04 of the eighth round against smith.

The McDonnell shout is a great one, That for me was a robbery. But to his credit the luck he got he ran with it. Fair play to lad.

Id also say Bellew getting chinned by Ovill. Before then he was like bull in a china shop but since them knockdowns he has boxed alot more and a light seems to have switched on in his head. That was one hellacious knockdown he got up from.

    What's that DeGale vs Groves?.

Well if that 12th round went to DeGale which IMO he won then who knows what might of happened. Tough to say really because DeGale was developing bad habits all the time really.

Your such a troll SPB, I think your PK myself.

Do you honestly think you can spark intelligent debate and discussion on eastsideboxing?

Your having a laugh! Now stop trolling little boy! :rofl

On a serious note, Roy Jones Jr vs. Antonio Tarver. Jones was never the same afterwards and suffered the same in many fight afterwards. I would class that as the start of a downfall and a pivotal moment that changed a career. He was Numero uno, P4P number one, people were saying the greatest in our generation and then in one punch POW! In the very next fight against Glen Johnson he got brutally KO'd as well. The downfall began and he is still falling.....very sad to see a once true great still fighting and trying to make money in any way possible. I dont think they love the sport or believe for one minute they can be like they once were.....they carry on past there sell by date, purely because they need the money. And we have seen many great fighters die a little bit in the ring, a ring they should no longer be in.

    Sad really.

The smartest get out and stay out on top. Like Joe Calzaghe.

20th may was when Wayne McCullough pulled out of Prizefighter and an irish kid with numerous brothers and sisters got the call to take his place. Willie Casey.
