Camacho/Rosario. 5th round.

Camacho gets hit with a monster left hook. His legs buckle and he's shaken from head to toe. He uses evasive skills in the rest of the round and manfully gets through the rest of the fight. But that punch crushed him mentally. Changed his psyche forever. He feared getting hit like that again. And when you fear getting hurt, you're not the fighter you should be.

That was the end of Camacho as one of the best fighters in the sport.

Also: Eubank/Canty

This was the fight were Eubank realised that he would get the decision in any fight he was not stopped in. My belief is that this knowledge helped shape him into a worthless, arrogant ****.

 

Alex Arthur was being hyped as the next big thing by ****** and was all set to be pushed as a massive ticket-seller, then the Michael Gomez fight happened.

On a similar note Enrique Sanchez pulling out of a fight against Ledwaba at late notice, some little Filipino fighter ended up getting the call to replace him and as they say the rest is history.

 

Corrales sacrificing the point (deduction) to gain some energy back only to end the fight in devastating fashion. Round 10 vs JCC.

A couple from the same era about twenty years back (yes, I am old!).

What if as was originally planned Jose Ribalta got his rematch with Tyson in Tokyo instead of being decked twice by Jeff Sims, on the Tyson/Williams undercard, leading to Douglas (who outpointed Oliver McCall on the same bill), getting the shot?

What if Richard Steele gave himself a couple more seconds to decide whether to let Meldrick Taylor continue in their epic St Patrick's day battle in 1990?

 

Martinez didn't land that KO shot on PW! He goes on to lose another decision to him.

If he didn't cut Pavlik in round 10 he would have lost that fight comfortably too.

 

Steve Robinson:

He got a completely undeserved shot at the vacant WBO title at short notice. He beats John Davison and wins the title. From that fight on he grew exponentially in both ability and confidence. He grew into his strap and became a genuinely worthy belt-holder.

I'm sure he wishes Pillock Naz was aborted at birth. I wish he was aborted as a 5 year old.

How about Cus D'amato dying in Tysons career? I know he went on to be champion but he never had Cus's guidance to fully achieve what he could have done.

Looking back that has to be a pivotal moment in his career.

 

Its sad really, you do get the sense that if Cus stayed alive for even 5 more years say, how different would Tyson's career be? It makes you wonder.
