The moment that Lewis opened that cut on Vitali's eye was pretty important in terms of his legacy. If it hadn't have been for the cuts who knows what could have happened. It was also a pivotal moment in Vitali's career as the only other ATG heavy weight he has fought he lost to and never got his defining fight in the rematch!

Lindsays left hook against Matthews? Close fight before that but the way Setanta were commentating you'd have thought Derry was in there by himself. Picture perfect shot and Martin went on to have a good career should of done a good bit more I thought. Simmo should of done more himself after their fight

On a domestic note the ref stepping in to stop Crolla against Matthews, a lot of people were unhappy with the stoppage Derry looked like he was starting to tire. Would he have gone on to win? Would he have fought in PF (a format completely unsuited to him). Don't think many had world class ambitions for the lad but definitely feel like his careers taken a big backward step this year.

You could also make an arguement for the tragic results of the G-man/benn and Watson/Eubank led to the British stoppages which have affected so many boxers careers. Not to mention saving Spencer Olivers life.

British refs did have a reputation for stopping fights earlier than American refs from way before those fights Mand. Not saying those fights didn't affect how future fights were reffed in this country but theres no black and white, before and after line in the sand.

Obvious one but what if Castillo had got the decision in the first Mayweather fight? May(!) have humbled Floyd a little bit and compelled him to take a couple of the bigger, riskier fights that were there for him in order to get his aura back.

I'm still fairly new to the sport but it does seem like those fights had a large affect on how fighters safety was approached in British boxing which has led to some of the over the top responses we get nowdays.
Easy mistake to make two well respected posters of impeccably high standard.

    :good.

What fight?. You don't mean the Devakov fight?.

Edit: All i remember from that fight is Spencer on floor. The ref must of known something was wrong but he did take a beating that night he just wasn't at the races IIRC. Dad wasn't there either he was in U.S with his Finchley club.

I meant that it was the changes made to the medical response after the Watson injury that helped save Olivers life.

Yep a magnificent job that night the doctor did. IIRC he used a unique method to help the brain breath which a lot of doctors didn't do back then.
