ESB Fighter of the Year

    There's been alot of debate over this topic, but who is ESB's choice for fighter of the year? Lots of guys had great years on 07, but the choices are between Mayweather, Cotto, and Pavlik. Let's look at their credentials:

    Floyd Mayweather - Defeated two top 20 p4p fighters, both of which may one day end up in the Hall of Fame. Won his 5th title in as many weight classes, and participated in the two biggest fights of the year. He was also named Fighter of the Year by ESPN, Ring Magazine, and USA Today.

    Miguel Cotto - Defeated former 140 lb. contender Oktay Urkal, former WW and JWW champion Zab Judah, and former LW,WW, and JMW champion Shane Mosely. Cotto came into his own in 07 and proved himself to no. 2 in the division behind Money May. Cotto was named FOTY by Yahoo Sports, Fox Premios, and Boxing Talk.com.

    Kelly Pavlik - Defeated 5 "8 MW fringe contender Jose Louis Zertuche, MW contender Edison Miranda, and MW Chamption Jermain Taylor. Kelly KO'd all 3 of his opponents in 07, and became the recognized MW champion of the world. Pavlik was named FOTY by ESB poster and Pavlik fan, Jetski(note, Jetski is not a boxing writer, and I don't believe he runs a boxing website)

    Pavlik. While Cotto and Mayweather had close victories over their opponents SS and DLH, respectively, Pavlik KTFO Taylor who was the man at 160.

    I'll have to stick with Cotto, saw all his fights this year, whereas with Pavlik I only saw in full the Taylor fight, and as for Floyd, well, it was close, but Cotto gets it for me

    I voted cotto.

    He has surprised all of us too many times. I'm not gonna stand here and give mayweather a dicksucking because he beat hatton and an older de le hoya. mayweather has gotten his props and I dont think i'd vote him fighter of the year because I think in 08 he has lots to prove and could possibly have an even better year than lastyear.

    Pavlik has some very big wins and definitely has boosted his image the most in one year. I mean he came from reltively nothing to mw champ in the spotlight. Props to him but again, but cotto takes it for me.

    pavlik - 3 fights this year and 3 knockouts. i kno mayweather may be the truth right now and cotto is my fav boxer. but u gotta give it to pavlik. he did his thing and established himself as a well known boxer now. 07 goes to pavlik no doubt

    It simply has to be Pavlik, unlike PBF (although all credit to Floyd), Kelly has beaten the unified champ in his division and top contender Miranda.
