fighter of the year is about accomplishments, not overcoming higher odds. Mayweather beat an atg in his first fight at a higher weight, and beat a top 10 p4p undefeated, undisputed champion. Pavlik beat a fringe contender, a top 5 contender, and a champion that wasnt top 10 p4p. And even if you equate beating taylor with beating hatton (which is a HUGE stretch), beating an atg in your first fight at a higher weight class beats out knocking out a fringe contender and a top 5 contender.
same dumbass argument from the same mindless ****s. B/c I, along with ALL respected boxing media, knows mayweather is the fighter of the year, then im a nuthugger...
I don't count beating Taylor as meaning anything, sorry Kelly, we owe your limited skill set and abilities SO VERY MUCH for removing that awful Jermain Taylor, but you just aren't quick there with the big boys in the P4P game.:yep Taylor did get his **** ****ed up, it was so beautiful.:yep
Another bad example, stopping someone isn't neccesarily testament to one's skill level. But rather to their strength and size. Floyd is not a power puncher and he didn't have much of a size adavantage. Not alot of people were predicting a stoppage for Floyd. Sure, other WW's could've stopped Hatton, but they're all much bigger and stronger than Floyd. Miranda was KO waiting to happen. He doesn't know the meaning of defense, he came into the fight with a suspect chin, and Pavlik had about a 4 inch height advantage over him.
point is,everyone thought mayweather was going to win both fights, he was a favorite in both. oscar win was very good, but where the **** did hatton come from? pure money deal, and a money year for who? money may. in 08 if mayweather beats say cotto and williams (assuming williams does well) i would definitely vote him. oscar and hatton are just meh. i mean oscar was coming off a mayorga fight, its says something about the state of oscar's boxing career.
Dont get it twisted undefeated undisputed champ at a higher weight than he normally fights at :good. Not saying btw that it would have went differntly at 140. But Collazo nearly beat Hatton. Look at Collazo now? Hatton has looked utter **** at 147. Hatton is hardly top 10 at 147 let alone top 10p4p. Acheivments are based on your status. You have to look at what a fighter does relitive to what they were expected to do or Hatton would never have won his title when he beat Tszyu. :good
Ok. How many fighters would have looked as good in beating them both in the respective weight class's then?
You have to beat at least two legit fighters in a calender year to be considered. Beating a made for T.V club fighter who lost to another glorified club fighter that currently fights at WW, does not qualify.
Overcoming steep odds is a big accomplishment. Oscar is not an ATG for one, second, we aren't dealing with a prime Oscar here. Third, it was a rather close affair because Mayweather refused to let his hands go at spots where he could have done so while still keeping the safety first approach. It's a fair win at best. Hatton was not an Undisputed champion, he was linear, he also was fighting Hatton at a weight where Hatton was proven to be ineffective. P4P ranked or not, Hatton is nothing at 147. It be like if Baby Bull crushed JMM at 135, it wouldn't be very impressive. Hey mate, you got no arguements from me here, Taylor was garbage and Miranda is just an average, fun to watch fighter with a punch. I see beating Taylor and beating Hatton at 147 as about the same, but again, Oscar is no ATG and even if he were, he's past his prime and was only '1/2 decent', with a record of always ****ing up somehow in the 'huge fights', this was no surprise.
LOL you re a true conformist although i dont really beleive in the word. here is your thought process. media says doritos are good....you, without even trying doritos agree that they are good. i would say 75% of the **** the media says is BULL****. quit being such a ****ing narcissist. Just because you or someone else beleives thats mayweather is fighter of the year, dont act like you're king **** and your decision can not be questioned.
who was reacting b/c of your opinion? You wanted to generalize me just b/c I see that mayweather is clearly the fighter of the year, as all respected boxing journalists do. You threw your little red herring out there and thought that was sooo witty. So back up your argument like a grown up.
