Are we talking about fighters who were hyped up only to have those hypes come crashing down, or fighters who just in general get more credit than deserved due to the hype machines?
I might agree with that if you refer to the "Gamboa vs. PacMan/Guzman/JMM this Saturday - who wins?" threads. But for calling him boxing's biggest talent since Roy Jones (just a talent, a POSSIBLE future superstar, not P4P-er without proving it) is quite fair and logical if you see what he's capable of and what he's doing in the ring. A tough tough fight is coming for him this Saturday, Jimenez is a very dangerous fighter (ask Anchondo), so that might answer some questions. But Gamboa really is a huge talent who doesn't need any hype... and not getting any from the media! He's MAKING the hype around him with his fists and HBO and Showtime are fighting for the right to showcase him! That's quite unusual... So that part is not a hype job. Believeing he'd KO PacMan in 1 this Saturday is another story...
If just in general I'd say Yuri Gamboa...although he has a great potential, he is hyped up a lot for someone with less than ten fights (but this is also how I found out about him). The first time I watched his fights I was amazed at his skill and potential, when I watched those fights again I realized he gets hit with flush shots and that his elusiveness may come back to hurt him.
Amir Khan? I don't know, for me it seems he's getting at least twice as much slap in the face here than hype... I mean everybody is talking about how hyped is he, but I don't see that hype at all on ESB - it's an anti-Khan community... Warren Media is hyping him but definitely not as much ESB believers as the Golota, Pavlik, Calzaghe and Mayweather lovers...
