    Agreed.

After losing to Joey Maxim for the 175lb title Cus risked moving Floyd up as, bar Moore, there was no one else there!

Archie had sparked Valdez in the intermission between Marciano and Floyds 'reigns'. So good win there against a P4P great who was past his best but still extremely dangerous.

Got the better of the series with Johannson. Fair enough.

Rademacher; I know the amateurs were more of an indication/preperation for success as a pro but to get dropped by a raw debutant when you're supposed to be 'The Man'. Don't wash with me.

Floyd wasn't as chinny as people make out. But he wasn't infallible, undersized and didn't have a great reign at the top.

I see both he and Liston as stop-gaps to the next great era of Heavies myself. I rank Liston higher, as many decent wins and the two destructions over Floyd himself. In a post-war only list he's top 15 arguably, in my alltime list hebusually sits just outside the top 20 or at no 20.

As a Heavy I can't rank him over Jersey Joe or Ezzard.

Patterson was quality though. With a bit more size to him he'd have been a quality Heavyweight ;-)

Note; before some noob tries telling me, yes I know Kid Dynamite was pretty much just that  :good

I don't need you to take me serious you patronising ****. And I have my reason my little golden flaps. What he achieved before his first defeat put him at the top for me personally. If I didn't think Liston had totally bottled it against Ali the Ali would be top.
Little lad eh. You think that up all by yourself? Jog on ya muggy little caaaaaaaant

I rate Liston pretty highly as a fighter. Record, okay could be a lot better. But as a fighter he is a formidable prospect. Clearly most people would rather face Floyd Paterson than Liston.

The fact that Ali made Liston bottle it tells you all you need to know ;-) Series with Frazier? Wins over Foreman (arguably the single greatest HW win of all time), Bonavena, Quarry, Lyle, Ellis, Patterson (shot) Williams etc etc etc???

The only man who could dislodge Ali is Louis IMO Avid, but you're entitled to yours :good

Anywhere between 5-10 is fair for Mike IMO.

I do too, in fact it's his ability that he scores high on. His resume is fairly average IMO (when you're discussing 'Great' Heavyweights anyway) and his rign at the top short lived.

As a fighter though he was a small beast armed with an amazingly rangy jab (which in itself could put holes in people)

I find him hard to place due to him being such a contradictory fighter. Machen (light heavy) Folley (decent contender) Patterson (good wins, the manner of which are sublime) and Cleveland Williams. Am I missing something or is that basically it?

H2H I reckon he'd beat Marciano as well. Charles I'm not so certain. He might be one of the smaller Heavies capable of figuring that jab out and having enough firepower to stop Liston walking through him if heroes. Ultimately I'd favour Liston though.
