I have no idea what 12-0 Dave Penalosa is up to, he hasn't fought since September 2016. His much better brother, 19-0 Dodie Boy Jr. works in Maryland now and seems to have stopped boxing. He initially went here in Maryland to continue his boxing career but hasn't fought since March 2016. He still teases on a return to the ring from time to time on Facebook. Another Gerry nephew (not sure which Penalosa's son he is) has risen in 10-1 Carlo Caesar Penalosa. I'm not high on Carlo. He attempts to display decent boxing skills and IQ in the ring but you could tell he's to slow to adjust even against a hayemaking brawler. He's lucky he's at 112 because someone like Berwela would annihilate him. I thought he lost his last fight and he does not have the potential that either of his cousins (or brothers?) have.

I watched that fight. That was close but clear win for Dogboe. Tabanao was able to rough him up and find success inside, hence my prediction of Juarez taking him out, which was totally off. He did knock down Dogboe though, but the ref ruled it a slip. He's a good fighter who'll give anybody a tough fight.

Yeah dude is still fighting. He's currently in training right now. He'll probably be put in the next Pinoy Pride card, hopefully. I really like this kid.

My favorite Filipino boxing prospect, 24 year old 2012 Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga. 8-0 (1 KO). This is his total schooling of 2-time world title challenger Wittawas Basapean. His next fight should be a title eliminator against former world champ Jose Argumedo.

Are we not including the road warriors and grizzled veterans at all here?
Mark John Yap is on a great run (and his fight with Masuda last year was incredible!)
Ricky Sismundo is a hard out for anyone

    Others to consider-
Brian Lobetania scored a big win yesterday in Japan against Kai Chiba (who I was high on)
Big fan of Michael Dasmarinas who has been in camp with Yamanaka among others, a real natural talent
Giovanni Escaner is a nightmare at 115, shame he's gone up a bit too high recently
Giemel Magramo has future world champin written all over him

Man, what an epic Pinoy journeyman trilogy it would've made this week if Porras had sprung the upset on undefeated Navarrete, too. Vaquero is just too damn powerful.

Whatever became of Malcolm Tuñacao? He was on the comeback trail after putting on a strong, courageous, and game showing in his loss to Yamanaka (which arguably could have been called the FOTY in 2013, a year that included Bradley vs. Provodnikov - even though my card at the stoppage was a tad wider than all three judges' at 107-100 for Yamanaka, it was a brutal war that was by no means easy for Shin) and had put together a 3-win streak in Japan against varying degrees of no-marks (starting from scratch with a 1-2 Thai confidence-builder, then graduating to a 6-2-1 Korean and finally a 16-2-1 Japanese opponent in a non-televised bout on the Ioka vs. Carrillo undercard) before just up and disappearing. He's forty now, so we can probably safely call this a retirement and not a hiatus. Shame, because he was regaining some momentum (not sure why TBS didn't air him on the Ioka vs. Carrillo broadcast, though, he's always value for money), was a fan-fave, and still in good form against Yamanaka.

Why'd you leave us, Eagle-Eye?? :frown:

Man, too bad Team Pinoy is so weak at 130lbs. They could really use a killer at super feather to go teach Shavkatdzhon "The Cotto of Tajikistan" Rakhimov a lesson. He just went on a six month tear, ending last May, where he knocked out four consecutive Filipinos. Jimmy Paypa did manage to drop him twice before succumbing later on, so it probably wouldn't take a total beast to do the job...merely a slightly higher caliber than what's on tap. (since Paypa is nearly as good as it gets right now in the PI @ SFW)

The hardest place to win apart from Mexico is Russia. These boxers from the Eastern Bloc are monsters. It is easier to win in South Africa, Australia, UK, Japan and Latin America.

Argentina and Thailand want a word ;)

(Yeah Berwela won in Thailand recently but at the top level that place is a bloody fortress)
