It's Ward, he beat the guy who was the top dog so I think he should be considered the top dog. Bute has looked really impressive against the guys he's fought but none of them were top five super middle weights, so how could you put him at the top of the division.

I still have Bute at #1, although Ward is getting closer. Ward has the best win between both of them. Bute still has three wins better than Ward's second best win though, and six wins better than (or equal to) Ward's third best win. Bute's resume is just much deeper. But I wouldn't argue too much if Ward was #1.

It's Ward and not even close.

Wards last two wins trump Butes entire career.

a very reliable source that i depend on ranking boxers is BoxRec.com...
their ranking system is dictated by a series of computations and values based off the boxer's performance and their opponents. It also takes into consideration their prior rankings and performance vs higher/lower ranked.... their points systems a bit skewed towards puncher more than boxers, as you accrue more points for KO's/TKO's. The points are not static but shifted/changed by literally every fight in the class. i also like to use their info to research a boxer's history and performance in each fight

    Current Active Boxers
    1) Lucian Bute - 805 points
    2) Andre Dirrell - 735 points
    3) Andre Ward - 641 points
    4) Mikkel Kessler - 603 points
    5) Kelly Pavlik - 533 points (going up in weight class)
    6) Authur Abraham - 522 points
    7) Carl Froch - 507 points
    8) Robert Stieglitz - 479 points
    9) Daniel Geale - 399 points
    10) Jesse Brinkely - 328 points

    Retired -
    1) Joe Calzaghe - 665 points
    2) Steve Collins - 326 points
    3) Nigel Benn - 323 points
    4) Svenn Ottke - 302 points
    5) Chris Eubank - 293 points

    this system is pretty revealing....

boxrec is the WORST ranking system out there.

Until Saturday, Kessler was still ranked AHEAD of Ward.

That's all that needs to be said.

lol, i dont think its designed to swap around everything on an individual fight, but a measure of overall performance in consideration of the whole division, not just two fighters. If you want to use your quick thinking, if Mike Tyson got caught in a flash KO by a complete nobody who has a losing record, would you honestly rate that person higher than Mike Tyson? Maybe in time if he's consistent with his performance in future fights, but not everything is based wholly on one fight.

well, my personal rankings, AFTER this long-winded tournament(2yrs more?)... Andre Ward will have built enough street creds to be acknowledged as the #1 Supermid, along with the WBC & WBA world titlebelts...

    1) Andre Ward
    2) Lucian Bute
    3) Carl Froch
    4) Andre Dirrell
    5) Authur Abraham

If you beat a fighter, you go ahead of the fighter.

When Buster Douglas beat tyson, he got the belt right??

It's not like they said "Wait a minute, you are really not as good as Tyson, so we'll move you up to three and Tyson stays one."

In boxing, your last fight means more than anything.

Arthur Abraham is the man at this point. Practically he is leading the tourney with 6 points.
