Yes, but I don't know much about his accomplishments before UFC 7. I know he was already a respected fighter and trainer, but that's all I know about him.

 

Me too, apart from the ''King of the Streets'' moniker, and he had an open challenge to Rickson Gracie, which Rickson didnt accept. But who knows how serious you can take that

Speaking of Jack Dempsey...how about him at least 1919-into the 20's. Of course he had a aggressive boxing style that was also moble which is maybe a well suited style to mma (definitly better then a stationary roll counter punch style of James Toney) but beyond that he was also pretty good at catch as catch can wrestling (not the best, its said he decided not have a shoot match with Ed Strangler Lewis, but that would have been a pure grappling match...I suspect if one added strikes Strangler would have been Ed Chocking...chocking on Dempseys fist.)

Also he had a black belt in Judo, and had been in many street fights and border line boxing/street brawls in hobo camps coming up.


So anyhow...how about Dempsey...only weakness I can think of is he maybe never really put everything together..other then as a youth...and he wouldn't have been familar with kicks...but hey..plenty of good to great mma fighters today never put out a kick.
