It was really something how people actually thought that Ali had any chance at all to win that fight. He was merely a lamb being led to the slaughter.
It just makes you hope Holyfield and some others never gets a serious fight ever again really doesnt it.
Great documentary and sad too. Many people forget that Ali really needed that money at the time because he had been married two times prior to this fight I believe. Sadly in those days there were little to no endorsement deals to help you out. All of your finances were what you made in the ring. And Ali having to pay alimony and child support to his former wives wiped him out. He was taken to the cleaners financially.
Even after all this time,I still can't bring myself to watch that fight. Except for the brief bits on the Champions Forever vid.
prophetic words from gil clancy. just a sorry state of affairs all round finishing with that rat King paying him 50 measly grand of his purse
Even if you dont feel it should be a crime legally..based on some libertain ideal..it can still be called a crime morally..and guys like don king are still pieaces of ****...and honestly..i think the government does have a role in not letting people who are physically unable box. but im sure in your libertarian fantasy world it would be great to have gladator fights where poor people would be given 50,000 that they could give to their family after they die in battle...im sure you think "bum fights" where awesome as well...
yes he had good fighters as sparring partners...but some of that is also because the 80's saw the start of the alaphbet soup titles
i did notice how much less intense all of Ali's sparring was compared to Holmes...just watching that you could see Ali's guys where taking it easy....
