Did anyone watched this? Thoughts? :huh IMHO, Larry was/has/and will always the most UNDERRATED HW Champion in boxing history. like they said on that show, the forgotten one. However, in my eyes he was the best. Had all the tools needed to control the pace of fights. And had he been around now days and in his prime, he would give a brutal beatdown to any of toda's heavies including the Klits....:good
Larry Holmes was one of the greatest heavy weight of all time. IMO, I think a prime Holmes can beat a prime Ali and can beat any of the heavy weight today.
Its also on youtube now pimp, I watched it last night. Some points: *Holmes really is an underrated fighter. Like they say in the 48 laws of power- never take the place of a great man. We also see this in the NFL where a very good young quarterback in Aaron Rodgers cannot get credit for anything. *Ali was as much a victim of his vanity than anything. It is very difficult for fighters to give up that high, that defiance of beating the odds, especially for a fighter that was so loved. We saw this later with Sugar Ray Leonard as well. *Interesting that Witherspoon waas Ali's sparring partner, I did not know that. He was another underrated fighter of the 80s.
:goodMan, I dont know whats better your picture or the show. That chick is hot! That was so sad. Ali should have never been allowed to fight Holmes that night. IMO the promoters and members of the commission should have been arrested for letting this fight happen. I was only 2 years old when this fight happened. Anyone with eyes and ears could see that Ali was in bad health. They showed him getting his ass handed to him in sparring sessions. A member of his team even says it was all for $. Greed. Homles is also a victim here. It was said that he got $2 million & Ali got $8. I think that this fight took away from Homles legacy. I like the fact that Holmes seems in good health and sprits though. Great thread.:thumbsup
In Holmes defense, a $2million payday in 1980? It would almost be irresponsible for him not to take the bout.
You are right Terrible, I knew it was something like that. Thanks BTW...To those who commented, please list your favorite Holmes fight... Mines were versus Leon Spinks and versus Gerry Cooney...... The one versus Marvin Fraizer when he kept signaling the ref to stop it because he didnt feel like hitting Marvis anymore in the corner....
IMHO, it was more about showing how Holmes lived in the shadows of Ali, you know. How he was never given credit for his hall of fame career. I guess he feels like they dont talk about him anymore. But he doesnt know that US true fans talk about him constantly....:good
this is why nobody gives larry holmes props. at 1:08 [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9MynfxG5vM[/ame]
