ESPN and Showtime KO1 HBO

    Let's be honest, how has HBO been doing as an outlet for boxing these last couple of months?

    Compared to this ESPN and this season of FNF, along with random TNF/WNF events and ESPN3.com coverage, not so well.

    Showtime has several tournaments in the works, has had a good output of boxing at the prospect level(something HBO completely lacks) and at the championship/P4P level.

    Can anyone even remember the last truly good card they watched on there this year? The only two relevant HBO cards this entire summer have been Pascal-Dawson and the Cloud Alexander card.

    And both were recent so what are you complaining about?

    Do you want HBO to show FNF caliber fights?

    HBO gambled on Mayweather-Pacquiao and Klitschko-Haye, they saved all their budget thinking they'd need to layout for these fights. Ross Greenburg should stay away from Casinos from now on, unless he's there to televise a fight.

    They weren't really great cards. I'm complaining about them not showing enough. And yes! I would actually like HBO to show some smaller fights, build fighters up from the ground up for the public. One of boxing's biggest problems is the obsession with the CHAMPIONSHIP P4P 4 BELTS ON THE LINE RIVALS AND TWITTER WARS FOR 4 YEARS WITHOUT SIGNED CONTRACTS bull**** that comes with only sponsoring big name fights. Boxing needs to.....show more, and have more boxing.

    If HBO had a ShoBox equivalent i'd poop my pants.

    Fair enough. There just hasn't been many big/good fights this year. Looks like things are starting to turn around though.

    Q4 2010/Q1 2011 looks sick on paper, definitely. At least in terms of big fights. But the coverage could be better. It's a shame we can't watch FotY contenders like Calderon-Segura on American TV somewhere- a lot of good boxing is not being televised here and it's hurting the sport. A lot of people talk about boxing's problems but exposure is an easily fixable one, and the TV outlets for boxing(HBO, ESPN, Showtime) are doing a mediocre job of promoting and presenting fights and fighters to the public.

    Not well. If they paid their fighters LESS and had more decent fights instead spoiling some hopeful future star and making them think they're worth so much...whatever...It's not worth typing anymore.

    No, relevant point Broxed Ears. Everyone at the championship level is spoiled and overpaid by HBO. That's why Williams Martinez isn't happening. That's why Angulo declined a MW title shot. That's why Khan-Maidana is having contractual issues, and on, and on. HBO does a crappy job at managing boxing with their influence. They cherrypick big fights and do nothing to help cultivate the environment for great fighters, like farmers harvesting crops on the same soil over and over again.

    Agreed, it's got to start at the network level. I still can't ****ing believe Angulo feels he deserves 1 Mil for a crack at a Middleweight title he probably doesn't even deserve a shot at. Jesus, he gets to leapfrog over some serious up and coming talent in the division (Golovkin, Pirog, Jacobs, Lemieux, etc..) and still turns it down.

    I agree. And I have a theory. I think HBO bouts are getting progressively worse because they are diverting more of their boxing budget into promoting their Pay Per View bouts with series like 24/7. As a result, they can't afford to put together many interesting bouts.

    Yeah, quite disgraceful. A title shot at a lineal champion who is like 35 years old, with options on a rematch given to him by HBO, in a division with hungry, hungr fighters? It's really mind boggling.

    I almost like it this way, hopefully the PPV format will die out and network TV can pick up boxing again in a big fashion. HBO has been putting everything on PPV recently. Aren't they behind the Mora-Mosley card?

    HBO is still by far the best in the business.

    I agree that as of lately they haven't been putting on the best shows - but there haven't been many good boxing matches as of lately either. All of the biggest of fight didn't happen - but if they had - they would have all been on PPV. And not only do they have the bigger name Boxers - but they have a longer list of Boxers as well.

    The B.A.D. Programs were suppose to be used as a ShoBox type of platform - but now they're using it to show any of the lower budget fights they purchase or are obligated to fulfill.

    I don't believe the Mosley/Mora fight is being backed by HBO. I thought this was an independent show being put on by GBP.

    With more fights to come this year and the first quarter of next year already shaping up - I believe HBO will start to pick up the pace in a few.

    I do have to give it up to Showtime for the Super Six and for showcasing all those smaller fighters. Then you also have to give props to ESPN for picking up all the fights that the major networks neglect. Regardless to who's showing the fight for our viewing pleasure - I'm just happy someone's doing it. And since I have all 3 networks - I'm satisfied.
