ESPN and Teddy Atlas get behind the Transnational Boxiing Rankings Board (video)

Who would that be? why?

 

This is great exposure for the rankings. My issue with these kind of rankings will alwys be theres no way of ensuring the champion will face good opponents. He can win he lineal belt and then fight nobody for 5 years!

For example Chad Dawson lost his last fight at Super Middleweight, his defence of his Light Heavyweight title is gonna be against a 168lbs fighter so he will not have faced a top fighter for over a year at Light Heavy.

 

It's a problem with four different "champions" in each weight class. Just because there's a sanctioning body involved doesn't mean anyone gets forced to do anything.

All you can hope is that the networks stop referring to the old belts and start talking about something relatively objective (and not owned by a magazine that, in turn, is owned by one of the two major power-players in the sport). HBO, Showtime and ESPN shouldn't have undue influence over the sport (as is the case with Haymon-represented fighters and HBO), but they could be a force for good in getting rid of some of the outright stupidity.

I wasn't saying the current system is better than TGR. Just that the TGR or any independent rankings system will not perfect until theres some quality control on the champions.
