He ran out of gas, same with Purrity when young. But you look at him at the weekend: he was not even out of breath, better conditioning and experience of 21-0 since Brewster.

It happened... I never said it wasn't a "real" win for Brewster.

Never seen anybody more gassed after 5 rounds than Wlad in that fight. Back then he was a non-stop punching machine but I guess that fight taught him a lot about pacing. Always found that ending strange

I think it was a combination or gassing himself, being ultra nervous (the fight was an eliminator and it was widely assumed if Wlad lost he could hang up the gloves) and realizing he's in for a lot of hurt.

Once Wlad shot his load and Brewster started striking back, landing blow by blow Wlad's legs turned to jello and he just fell over from sheer exhaustion. Great great win for Brewster.

Agreed. His past post-fight interviews also used to show that he was wise beyond his years.

I remember seeing this fight live as it took place a little over 10 years ago. You've given a spot-on assessment. In the end, Wladimir gassed and was stopped. The referee gave him a standing 8 before he was even put down at all, despite the rules calling for no standing eight counts. He would have been a sitting duck and could barely hold his arms up.

The setbacks only served to transform him into what he is today.

So are you saying he was exhausted or wasn't he? Two posts ago you said he wasn't. That's what people are telling you, now you've changed the trajectory of your argument.

For as much as Emmanuel Steward gets credit for molding Wlad Klitschko, he was the one at fault for having Wladimir gas out against Brewster.
Emmanuel wanted to mold and train a Heavyweight champion who could brutalize and dominate opponents.
Emmanuel Steward wanted to train a DOMINANT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION.

Previously having trained Lennox Lewis, Steward in many of his fights was frustrated at Lewis' lack of killer instinct. Lewis being overly cautious and allowing fights to get boring.

Emmanuel wanted Wlad to be the opposite, have a killer instinct and go for it by letting his hands go.

Pacing! Thats a fault of Steward. He was never able to teach his pupils the art of pacing oneself according to who you were fighting.
In that Brewster fight, to put it in horse racing terms, Emmanuel Steward took to the whip on Wladimir way to soon and wore out his horse before they even hit the stretch.
The result of that Wlad-Brewster fight is one of the worst things that could have happened to heavyweight boxing since as Wladimir as a result turned into the most cautious and boring Big Heavyweights in the history of the sport.

Yeah, it is hilarious, like shady stuff has never happened in boxing before. Boxing gloves being loaded and people injured and killed. Billy Collins was blinded by loaded gloves and Resto charged and kicked out of boxing. The legendary trainer Angelo Dundee charged that Leon Spinks was juicing, drinking a energy drink rather than the legal water between rounds which gave him weird energy throughout the first Ali fight. Cotto lost to loaded gloves. Wlad could not knock out Wach with his massive punches which landed clean. Why? Oh, the post fight drug tests showed Wach was roiding, that's why. That first Brewster fight smelled to high heaven. Wlad was drugged. He has never gassed that quickly. He gassed very late in the Purrity fight. That was legit.

Why was it a great win for Brewster? He was knocked from pillar to post most of the fight
The rematch showed the world the difference
Brew brought it but he knew Wlad was the real deal
