Dimitrenko can only fight in spurts now but surprisingly he was actually pretty effective and dangerous when he let his hands go and he was setting traps and landing some hefty counters. His punch resistance for a man of his gargantuan dimensions has always been very poor, though. Jennings is one of the more skilled late starter HWs in this woeful era of wooden Herman Munster-esque clones and gangling no skill NFL and NBA rejects and he should be looking to try and secure a fight with a Joseph Parker or Dillian Whyte calibre fighter next.

especially when the ref was as out of position as humanly possibly when it happened.

Yeah, but... this is Jennings we're talking about too, he's not that heavy handed and Dimitrenko was hanging in there taking his shots well up until then. There is a chance he could have bounced back. But the writing was on the wall, its probably for the best.

Russian or no, his eyes were more swollen by the time the fight ended, as a result of the jabs and hooks he was taking throughout the contest.

Not in and of itself, but coupled with three knockdowns and the fact that he getting rocked or dropped every time a punch made contact over the past couple of rounds, that serves as a perfectly valid contributing factor.

I'm not mad about the stoppage.. just thought it could have waited a few moments. Sasha wasn't going to come back and win.

Dimitrenko actually impressed me. I didn't think he was capable of that.

Jennings will go down among this generation of boxing nerds as somebody that was good enough to be an elite if only there were a "super cruiserweight" division with like a 220lb cap, but with things being as they are had to skrimp and claw just to keep treading water for most of his career as barely a fringe contender.

Parker already destroyed him in 3 rounds 2 years ago. If he can't hold his feet against a smallish heavy fringe contender like Jennings, he should probably retire or just fight Helenius. His best days were 10 years ago.

The stoppage was frustrating, but overall that was a pretty good and enjoyable fight.

I'm happy we got a match like that.
