The thing is Lance, its not like GBP wasn't trying to have Canelo fight a decent guy. They wanted Kirkland, then Williams, then Kirkland again, and then Ortiz.

I see why they don't want to have him fight Lara yet. I think GBP doesn't want either guy to lose right now because they want to build them up a bit more.

So I give them a pass a little.

Cotto weighed in at 157 against Corley who weighed in at 140.
Mayorga went from 147 to 160 in 12 months to fight Trinidad.
Mosley went from 135 to 147 to fight Oscar.

    This is nothing new.

Golden Boy Promotions are ****ing "us" with this move.
They could have acknowledged that TR had the better main event swallowed their balls & moved their date.

Alvarez has a following sure... But you can't compete with the Middleweight championship with a farce of a fight against a "Buster Douglas" type. (No offence)

No, I get that. Major props for trying to get a good fighter for Canelo. But a pass? If there was absolutely NO ONE available, then they get a pass. Just dissapointed in this choice IF it's true.

I've watched worse match ups thats for sure. I'll just record it and watch it later while I watch Serg/Chavez jr. I've certainly watched worse match ups (Barrera/Fana, Hopkins/Ornelas and Hakker)

Credit to GBP for getting this on CBS, Schaeffer had been mentioning it but I figured he was just blowing smoke. If it does go on CBS that is big news and even better when coupled with the NBC date in Dec and 2013.

As for the fight Alvarez-Lopez is somewhere between one-sided and mismatch. Lopez is a tough guy and gives 100% but he is clearly outgunned by a bigger/better fighter. Alvarez should stop Lopez by the middle rounds but it could be an all action fight which could help with any possible future CBS date.

I really think this situation will do a real hit on the Top Rank ppv from two areas.

    1. People will now have a choice-free fights on CBS or pay $55 for a ppv. Plenty of people will get their fix from the free fights and not need to order a ppv. If the GBP card goes on during the day that will help Top Rank but it still takes a hit.

    2. The biggest hit the Top Rank card it going to take is when it comes to the media and promoting their card. A lot of attention is going to go towards the GBP and away from Top Rank. I think the idea of boxing back on CBS is a bigger story than another Sept ppv. Throw in Alvarez being one of boxing's stars and Oscar's name will be in the mix than I think Top Rank will lose a lot of attention and their ppv numbers will take a real hit because of it.

Disappointed by this but cant say im surprised by it. Canelo will smash Lopez to bits. Good to hear its on terrestrial TV over in America though. Gonzalez-De Leon will definitely by a FOTY contender.

We were all looking forward to Gamboa-Rios. Canelo got hurt by former LW Jose Cotto and Joseito just broke the jaw of Ortiz who when I last checked weighed in at 164 fight night againt PBF. I've seen worst. The kicker for me is that it's on a major network. That is history. And Jhonny Gonzalez vs Ponce De Leon will be an action fight at well as Canelo- Lopez.

There's also been talk of Mitchell-Banks going on that date. I don't know if that fight moves or it goes off tv(doubtful) does CBS do 2 even 3 fights or is GBP going to do some fights on CBS and a couple on Showtime the same night, which would really give Arum a heart attack. A lot of possibities and I'm very intersted in how all this plays out.
