Exact timing is the killer on Broadcast TV to some extent. They really like to keep to a tight schedule.

Wow True, I forgot about Mitchell - Banks. When CBS did the strike force telecast with Kimbo they did several fights.

This is really looking like a battle between Golden Boy/Showtime on one side and Top Rank/HBO on the other. I know these guys haven't gotten along before but this seems to turn up the intensity even more.

I'm gonna watch the Free telecast and that will hold me over until next week when I can watch Chavez - Martinez on HBO. My cable is too much as it is. I watch major sports for free but have to shell out $60 on PPV for a match up that is not PPV worthy. Martinez vs Pavlik and Paul Williams were both on HBO. When did beating Andy Lee make you a PPV star?

GBP taking the sport in the right direction with a major network. Top Rank trying to keep it in the dark with a BS PPV on a Mexican holiday.

For the hardcore fan that what we'll do or watch CBS during the day(if it goes on during the day) and then order the ppv.

But there has to be a lot of casual fans who won't feel the need to get 6-7 hours of boxing in and will be content with 2 hours of free boxing instead.

Then there's the whole issue of media attention which can really help drive ppv sales. Top Rank will have to share the media with GBP and the return of boxing to CBS, maybe I'll be wrong but I can't help but think Top Rank loses a noticeable amount of buys here.

The Strike force stuff they did as well as NFL college basketball and Football go over all the time. and on Saturday night it's not like a weekday when everybody is watching. They probably got innfomercials after the fight anyway.

I think during the day will be a college football game and then at night we will see Boxing just like the MMA telecast.

Yeah, thats probably the most likely scenario. That would mean a free boxing card will be going against a ppv. I don't think this brings Top Rank and GBP any closer to working together. Maybe the competition will make for better cards, atleast on this date.

Arum announced that Tecate was doing a "Buy a 12 pack and get the PPV damned near free" deal. Personally, I'm used to not seeing a lot of the fights in 'real time'. Sometimes I save time if people say it isn't worth watching anyhow.

I'd be interested to see the kind of money CBS puts up for this fight. I've read of instances where sponsors have demanded money back because an event doesn't hit the anticipated viewing numbers. You gotta believe most of us are hoping is successful though. I don't even get cable cuz I never felt the need to pay for crap I wasn't gonna watch anyhow.
