Dude if it's about figuring out who's the best well Dawson WAS the best LHW and Martinez WAS the best MW they both lost to Stevenson and Cotto, no matter how you slice it based on what is done in the ring those wins are on paper better than anything GGG and Kovalev have done.

I give Kovalev more credit because he has unified 3 LHW Titles and that really makes him Undisputed, I've also said I have no problem with Kovalev being rated ahead based on that.

GGG on the other hand has beaten a total of 1 championship quality fighters in his whole career just because he looks good beating bottom 15-20 MW don't mean a thing in the ring he's done nothing but feast on tomato cans it was impressive/exciting but they were still tomato cans. Cotto has had 1 fight at MW vs THE REAL CHAMP and for his 2 fight he's planning on fighting a guy better than GGG that ain't a duck right now Canleo is a bigger legacy/meaningful fight than GGG because Canelo has actual done something and beaten top quality fighters. Cotto fighting Bradley is a duck, fighting Canelo is facing a better more accomplished guy.

IF YOU BEAT THE BEST FIGHTER IN A DIVISION NATURALLY YOU WILL BE RATED AS THE BEST UNTIL SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Whether that's head to head or facing better comp GGG hasn't beaten Cotto and he hasn't faced better comp it isn't to mush to argue

Yeah I dont buy that feasting on tomato cans thing though.. We arent talking legacy here.

I have no problem with Canelo, but no way do I rate Lara or Trout or Angulo as top shelf. Lara is Canelo best win, and its a very good win but no better than Geale. Lara got robbed against Williams, but otherwise his star is more about what he should have done/be doing as a former top shelf amateur as opposed to what he has actually done as a pro.

Cotto loses to top shelf competition, hasnt looked like a beast since 140lbs , lost to Austin friggen Trout... current claim to fame is beating a guy whos knee was so bad he couldnt even sit down on his punches.

I actually like Cotto though, he is a good fighter and fun to watch. But I consider anointing him the "best" at 160 as pure sophistry based on the artificial construct of "lineal champ". Which given current matchmaking realities is about as effective at identifying the "best" as rolling dice.

Kovalev has three belts, looked far more impressive in his recent bouts and I rate his resume more too, I mean you can have Stevenson as "number 1" just like Cotto, but not many fans actually consider them to be so, we all know who are the real number one's of their respective divisions.
