...okay, that's a lie. I've called at least one fight of his before, apparently. http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=551784&page=3 Still...
This. He barely got by Cotto and beat Kirkland, which isn't saying much. Badou Jack, Viktor Postol, and Tyson Fury are all more deserving than Canelo for fighter of the year.
Crazy. Rewind a few years and Giuriceo was an unbeaten prospect headlining a bill over Koval, a heavyweight fringe contender and back then probably Youngstown's 2nd most popular fighter after Kelly Pavlik. http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/nov/08/giuriceo-bout-is-main-event/ Since then he's 4-5 (2), losing in all his steps up.
Interesting pick while I would have gone with Gonzalaz due to overall consistently, Mayweather,Fury, or Canelo was bound to win it. Canelo had the most impressive and dominant performance according to people so he took it can't hate to much. A lot of GGG fanboys mad in here Kirkland is slightly less than or equal to Monroe & Cotto is vastly better than Lemieux while Murray has never beat a relevant fighter ever you should really be happy his hype even got him a nod.
Which is why I said slightly less than or equal to Kirkland is basically the average caliber fighter GGG usually fights. And Cotto is better than all his wins this year. Me personally I would have went with Gonzalaz but any of the top three makes sense.
