http://www.blatherskite.com/index.p...n-sky-broke-setanta-premier-league-us-sports/ :happy finally someone who can take on sky with similar resources interestingly their service will be offered through bskyb, what does this mean for how much they'll charge and potential boxing coverage?
They've already set up a website: http://www.espn.co.uk/ I could see ESPN getting some cricket rights over here. They have already bought cricinfo.com which is crickets version of boxrec in a way.
I think this is good news for boxing short term because they can show big fights straight away unlike other sports where they'll have to wait for the contracts to become available
WHAT IT MEANS TO YOU ESPN's matches will be available on BSkyB You will pay an extra amount for the ESPN matches Games likely to be on a new branded ESPN channel - separate from the existing ESPN Classic and ESPN America ESPN wants it on platforms other than BSkyB and is in talks with Virgin Media, though BT is yet to comment
it's all about espn now, i'm sure they'll get buncey on if they go into boxing which is an almost definate.
virgin will try and do a deal to get it for their xl customers, depends on how much content sepn are going to show as that is what will determine the price. there's a special box which you could never stop watching I'm behind you on that one. you wanna start it off?
sky are the gatekeepers of digital tv so they'll have to agree a deal with them to get it on their platform maybe they'll employ some people who work for setanta if they lose their jobs
Might not be as good as setanta but if they are buying more of skys rights then that leaves more room to be filled by sky with boxing (wishful thinking, they'll just show Mongolian football or something) and can't see ESPN not having some boxing.
Yep, Ish- said that to my mate earlier too. I don't know what to make of it all really. Weren't ESPN waiting to see if Setanta went into administration so they could get them on the cheap? It may still happen. If so, will Setanta just be but re-branded as ESPN? We may even get to watch even more live boxing seeming that ESPN are proven in the field :think. I am being optimistic though. Here comes another pissing subscription fee atsch.
