Did anybody see this on ESPN? It was Skip Bayless debating against Ryan and Doug Stewart. Skip said that UFC is "glorified wrestling" and seems stage somewhat. He also said that if a prime Frazier, Ali and Hagler strapped on those little 4oz. gloves then they would KO any UFC fighters in 10 seconds or less. I mostly agreed with this statement. Ryan Stewart largely agreed with Skip but added that people are drwan to this sort of thing is because the Heavyweight Division in Boxing is boring and at it's worst. Fight fans want something exciting. Doug Stewart said that they both need to get with the times because UFC will takeover. What do you think?
In 15 years, the young adults will be drawn to **** like the Szwarzenegger movie, ''Running Man''....always looking for more violence :nut
I think that boxing fans sound like little kids when they say stuff like this. What makes you think that an MMA fighter has any less of a chin than a boxer. These guys take bare knees and full force kicks to the face, I'm sure they can hanlde more than 1 shot from a heavyweight boxer. Not to mention that guys like fraizer, Ali etc would probably end up with broken hands if they punched like that without tape and bigger gloves.
I am not getting into a debate but they are much better fighters than any UFC fighter. They also hit hard and KO'd guys with 10oz. gloves. Imagine what they'd do with 4oz. gloves. I am not questioning the fighters' chins though.
Sure, boxers are much better boxers than UFC guys are. That's a no brainer and I don't think you'll get anyone on here who says otherwise. This seems to be a imaginary debate that MMA haters have decided us MMA fans on this board want to engage in. But no MMA fighter with a half a brain would be stupid enough to stand and strike with a great boxer in an MMA match. If Brock Lesnar were to compete against a top 10 heavyweight boxer in an MMA match, it's an absolutely certainty he'd take the fight to the ground. And what would a boxer do to prevent that from happening? His only hope is to land something while Lesnar is attacking - and that's pretty unlikely. The size of the gloves are irrelevant if you don't actually land a punch. Of course, put Lesnar in against a boxer in a boxing match and the outcome is a certainty. But why would Lesnar be dumb enough to agree to that in the first place?
Why start a thread if you don't want to debate the issue? Correction, they are much better boxers, not better fighters. In am MMA rules match where the referee is not going to stop a guy from holding, or elbowing, or kicking or dragging you to the ground then mounting you and punching or putting your arm in a position where he can snap it off, there is no reason to beleive that a boxer who only has the one strength would be superior. I don't think that anyone would dispute that an elite boxer has a better striking teqnique and therefore hits harder than your elite MMA fighters. However, do you think that they would be able to hit that hard if their legs were taken away? If they got kicked in the thigh hard enough that it hurts terrible to put weight on the leg? How about on the ground while having to punch up relying only on their arms?
Pretty much any boxer could train and do fairly well in MMA, but there is only a few if any MMA fighters that could step in the ring and be a real threat to a boxer.
I dont think anybody thinks MMA'ers have chins like that of an elite pro boxer. Having a solid chin is a requirement in boxing to compete at the highest level. In MMA, its not. MMA is largely composed of grapplers who have never been hit in their lives let alone by that of an elite pro boxer who can crack like no other human being on the planet.
Against Mir, Lesnar had a few uncomfortable moments on his feet where Mir pressed him a bit and tried to land a few shots and even connected with a knee. If Lesnar gave any of that time to a boxer, Lesnar would be seeing stars. But yeah, if he was careful he would get the boxer down and pound him out like he did to Mir. And the amount of time he gives to Fedor on the feet will largely depend on the outcome of the fight. Lesnar has to be very careful on his feet because he flat out sucks at striking and Fedor would exploit that. However, if Lesnar gets him down and is smart about it which he would, Fedor is going to lose.
Very brilliant, Lesnar has been trying boxing for years but just couldn't cut it so he had to go to MMA :-patschnut
