Don't know if you guys remember this stretch of time but there were many ring fatalities including Randie Carver, Beetoven Scotland, Bobby Tomasello, Leavander Johnson. Scotland and Tomasello fought on ESPN, Carver on Fox Sports and Johnson on a HBO PPV undercard. Don't know why this occurred than but not since?:think:think
Oscar Diaz was injured badly a couple of years later following a fight with Delvin Rodriguez on ESPN's Wednesday Night Fights. And, of course, Magomed Abdusalamov suffered injury at the hands of Mike Perez on a fight televised by HBO. But in general, it seems as though the level of safety precautions/ response time is a bit better Stateside than it's been in the past (or in other countries).
Boxing seems to be doing a better job with fighter safety in this regard. Thank God we haven't seen anyone die in the ring in a long time.
Bradley Rone vs Billy Zumbrun was on FOX also, back in 2003. Rone collapsed after the 1st round, CPR was performed by a ringside physician. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/i...rweight-oscar-gonzalez-dies-two-days-knockout http://www.ibtimes.com/francisco-fr...ter-knockout-loss-raul-hirales-suffered-brain I'm gonna assume dehydrating played a large role in both's demise.
These are all tragic....Salem-Carver is particularly appalling, though. Carver literally got headbutt to death and Salem should've been disqualified within the first few rounds by any competent ref. Absolutely terrible.
In the case of Leal, he'd be carried out on a stretcher following his fight against Gradovich, so one has to wonder if he ever recovered from that before carrying on with his career.
I do remember that now that you brought it up. No way in hell should he have been allowed back in the ring after that.
