Maybe I'm just completely bored out of my mind after watching that garbage debut episode tonight, but does anyone else get the impression that ESPN Friday Night Fights sometimes does more harm to the sport than good? Even as I'm typing that, I'm not sure I agree with what I'm saying, but damn did tonight's card suck. I mean, come on. Boxing gets so little mainstream free tv coverage and that is the best they could do. Whoever is preventing ESPN from airing better brodcasts (promoters, the network, the fighters themselves) should get their act together and give us all something wortwhile to watch. I'm not even suggesting they give us a PPV worthy fight, but at least throw a prospect or two into the ring. Guinn-Hawkins, Woods against some mall security guard. People wonder why more fans don't watch the sport. Maybe it has to do with the fact the only free boxing they get to watch is sometimes about as exciting as watching ice melt. Thank God we get Allan Green, Miranda and Pascal and Darnell Wilson in the next few weeks. I can't wait for those. But for now, I'm really down on FNF. Just a garbage night of boxing.

They should show more ring card girls in 2008.

The Woods fight was at least entertaining, and honestly the 2nd fight wasn't terrible, kinda funny actually to watch that idiot get DQ'd... the Guinn v Hawkings snoozefest was like sticking a red hot steel rod straight in your dick.. ****ing painful.

The first 2 fights were entertaining, I'm not going to lie. I think I fell asleep after a round or two of Guinn/Hawkins, though.

Agreed, but honestly, if I see Darrell Woods on FNF one more time. I mean, come on. I'm not asking for much. I did think it was funny at the start of the show when Atlas basically said, "I wish we had a better card for you tonight." Honesty at its best.

I love FNF because it most often reflects the reality of life in the boxing world. It gives us the good, the bad, and the ugly:good Tonight was no different. The Sargeant vs Woods fight was entertaining, the middle fight was a DISGRACE, and the main event was terrible.

BTW, Who the **** was the Ortiz character?? This clown could have been DQ'd earlier and had I been Ref?? He's outta there IMMEDIATELY after the TAKEDOWN!!! I mean this cat literally wrapped his leg and shot for it:-( :-( :-( The only possible worse performance was provided by GUINN who gave his usual NOTHING!!!:verysad :verysad :verysad :verysad

All in all? I'm glad the shows back!! I like BK and enjoy the weekly coverage. My only criticism is that they make better match ups for the main event. While we all enjoy the spices of life in the undercard? The main event should be a decent fight!! If they get AWAY from the turds like Guinn and keep making fights with REAL PROSPECTS? Everyone wins!!:happy

FNF is a stepping stone. If a fighter does well on FNF, he then graduates to Showtime and HBO. You got to prove yourself first on FNF before you can go on.

My biggest complaint isn't with the undercard necessarily. For the most part, those are at least entertaining. But less see some new blood. No more Darrell Woods, no more John Brown, no more Randall Bailey. And I agree completely on the main events. There isn't anyone in the world who could have thought tonight's main event would be exciting. I'm just frustrated because this one of the boxing world only chances at mainstream free tv, and this is what we get?

If they improve the main events? Its all good!! At least they revivew the recent action and keep everyone abreast of the upcoming events. The in-studio guests are usually add value, I'm glad its back.

I completely agree. Which is exactly why tonight's card frustrated me. No one on that card will ever be on Showtime or HBO. It was nothing more than a bunch of has beens. Sad that was the best they could do. They've only had six months to plan.

    Remember the timing!!

Sorry that there isnt 17 championship fights in the week between Christmas and New Years:good

ALL in ALL? FNF is good for the sport and gives some kind of weekly coverage and consistency.

Once again, I am 100% glad it's back. I love the show. I couldn't wait for it to come back. And I will watch it no matter what. BK and Teddy are great. The in studio guests are great. I'm not asking for a championship fight. I'm just asking not to feel embarrassed when I watch the fights. And like I said in my earlier posts, the next few weeks should be much better. Tonight's fights sucked.

Can we get a Darrell Woods petition going to? I thought I'd seen the last of him a few months ago when Allen Green knocked him out in less than a minute. Hopefully, tonight will convince him to hang em up.
