ESPN: José Carlos Ramírez vs. José Encarnación Zepeda & Edgar Raymundo Beltrán vs. Hiroki Okada RBR

Round 1

Ramírez is bow-legging, sticking his left foot out inside Zepeda's right. Lots of bobbing in place by Ramírez, catching some of Zepeda's southpaw jabs on his palms. Ramírez patiently hanging back, picking off jabs, sizing up Zepeda. Plunging left hand by Zepeda, ducked as Ramírez drops into an even lower squat than he was already in. Ramírez is angling in on Zepeda, keeping that lead foot tucked just inside, nudging against Zepeda's big toe. Zepeda fencing with the right jab while turned clockwise away from Ramírez, his left elbow on the far side pointing 45 degrees past his own ass. None of Zepeda's jabs really hitting flush. Ramírez harrying, threatening, never actually opening up, imposing his larger frame on Zepeda, bearing down on him, picking off jabs. Zepeda is forced to give up ground, right jabs fluttering into the guard. Big left hook by Ramírez misses, and right hand grazes.

10-9 Zepeda, just by virtue of at least having made some contact with a couple of jabs. Nothing round.

 

Round 2

Zepeda is gliding a bit more now, letting himself use his full quickness and nimbly keeping himself afloat while sashaying past Ramírez and landing with jabs between his thumbs and dropping teardrop lefts on the very top of his skull. Ramírez driving in head-first, warned for billy-goating, throwing hook-2 combos but finding Zepeda just a little too fleet of foot, always having just vacated the spot Ramírez is assaulting. Clinch. Warning from the ref for pushing down on the head in the clinch, I believe to Zepeda, since Ramírez is the one exposing the back of his bending over low. Ugly action, both men seeing their jabs deflected, Zepeda's right scrubbing against Ramírez's left and both repelling in opposite directions, neither coming near his target. Zepeda is baiting Ramírez, almost backing into the ropes, but then popping some jabs in the face as Ramírez comes forward.

Yeah, liking what I'm seeing from Chon so far, but especially surprised to see a game plan like this from Roach. Not his MO.
