Wyatt Sanford vs. Tomás Andrés Lastra Oñate, 4 rounds @ super lightweight

 

2 inch height advantage for the southpaw homegrown (Nova Scotia born & raised) Olympian prospect, one inch reach advantage for the Chilean kickboxing crossover.

 

Sanford has very quick hands. I was about to criticize him for carrying some amateur habits and being a bit too flashy with his combos rather than sitting down on them, but no sooner does he ramp it up and park Lastra on his ass with a series of whipping right hooks on the body and slingshot lefts on the mush. The fight goes another minute but Lastra doesn't escape the round.

TKO1!

 

Can't really ask for a better sophomore performance than that.

 

Sanford improves to 2-0; Lastra falls to 2-1.

Don't be surprised if the Kennetcook Kid has climbed all the way up the card within a year.

 

Moreno Fendero vs. Kristaps Bulmeistars, 8 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Liked what I saw from Fendero in his last outing a couple of months ago.

 

3½″ height advantage for the Latvian, who is coming off a few contests up at cruiser. (but that does include being blitzed in 24 seconds by British prospect Ezra Taylor)

 

Round 1

Fendero smartly varying his attack to body and head. Bulmeistars' gloves instinctively lowering to protect his abdomen and consequently he's getting beaned with more and more overhands up top, barely able to eke out a few defensive jabs and sheathing the rights that he'd started out cautiously drawbridging down from his high guard. And finally down he goes, maybe twists his ankle? Limps to his corner.

The commentators sound like they're saying "Chris Stabs Movie Stars" whenever they pronounce the dude's name.

 

Fendero now 11-0 (9), like Sanford he is one to watch.

 

Wyatt Sanford joins the pundits at ringside, in street clothes (a very preppy four-color - lavender-violet-cerulean-navy - horizontal striped polo, unbuttoned, collar halfway popped)

...man that Maritimes accent is something. It's like a potpourri of stereotypical Canadian, New Yorker, vaguely European, and Midwestern American.
