if 45000 tickets are printed for the event and 45000 are sold it is a sellout regardless of the size of the arena
they did not sell out cowboy stadium they soldout the event being held there

Wait a minute, then you can pretty much argue that almost every concert is large venue (Pasadena, Giants Stadium, Superdome, etc) is a not a sellout since in almost every music event, a large portion of the seating and field arrangements are configured in a way that it cannot seat 100% capacity.

Sold out and 100% seating capacity are two different things.

I actually think it is impressive since any other boxing venues (Atlantic City, Staples, and MGM Grand) seat only 15-30k at most. And all of them are in major 'resort' city that has a lot more to offer than Cowboys stadium in regards to entertainment besides the fight. Cowboy stadium is not even in a major city. It is actually in a suburb of Dallas!!

Once again for the slow ones. Arum said he hoped for 80,000 people that means they have the room for 80,000 people. If you only sell 40,000 tickets then its not a sellout. What they have done is adjusted the seats to fit the number of tickets sold. They do this in boxing all the time. If you sellout the top level of a casino but only sold a few tickets on the ground, you close the top level move the ticket holders to the ground and call it a sellout, because if you walked up to the door at fight time you would not be able to buy a ticket. HOWEVER if they sold 1500 tickets in the last two weeks before the fight they could then re-open the top level.

BTW 400,000,000 would be alot of folding chairs:rofl

No because alot of times those seats that arent sold are because they are useless for that event. Often when a concert is held in a football stadium the seats that are behind the artist are useless, no one wants to seat behind the stage and watch the back of the heads. Just as no one wants to be at the top of the stadium for a fight, or eles they would have said they hoped for 115,000 people for the fight instead of 80,000.

Agreed but that is not always the case. I have attended a lot of concerts and events when there where clearly enough space for additional seating.

I think people are too hang up on the word 'sellout.'

If this was in Madison Square Garden, it would have sold out in the first day since that can only support around 20K at best. And we would not be having this discussion. People would be more impressed even though (being a NYer) in context 45K in Cowboy Stadium is more impressive IMO.

if there was a demand for 60k there would be 60k available, if there was demand for 80k there would be 80k available, i see what youre saying and where your coming from but youre wrong imo

very true, but if only 12k tickets sold for MSG it would not be considered a sellout just becasue thats what the promoters are aiming for

Clearly, its Arum manipulating the semantics of "sellout" to create more hype for his event.....

I have no idea why anyone would deny this?? Are there arum fans on this board too? :huh:huh:huh

I posted an ESPN link where Arum is quoted and Jerry Jones talks in a video clip about 40K and NOT 80K.
I think you are confusing the Pac vs PBF fight when they said they had the potential to go 80K to 100K.

i think youre right about the numbers but either way it doesnt matter, arum and co reaching what they were aiming for doesnt equal a sell out, to put a cap on ticket sales at 45k when nearly twice of that can be sold doesnt make any sense and doesnt equate to a sell out

what do you mean printed tickets, tickets arent printed until they are bought, you think that there are 45k tickets sitting in a room somewhere? and what about the majority of people who will just print their own tickets right off of ticketmaster? tickets are not pre printed, this isnt some show at the local HS gym
