ESPN already reported that the fight will take place March 13, 2010 at 147 lbs, 8 oz gloves with a 50/50 purse split. The announcement was made without a signed contract from both parties and official announcement from both promotional companies. They made it seems that it is already set and a done deal. I know this is what the public demands as far as the term for the fight but... It makes it difficult for both figthers to negotiate other areas that they feel gives them leverage on the fight or just monetary compensation. If for some reason PBF or PAC demands more than the reported 50/50 or a diffirent weight, gloves, etc. at this time. They will get a lot of negative press and added pressure from the public. Do you think ESPN is announcing the fight prematurely with specific details without an official signed contract? :? Thoughts.
ESPN is announcing terms of the deal that have already been agreed upon. They would lose all credibility if they started making **** up in order to force guys to come to terms.
From what I've read, they've got an agreement in principle. There are a few details left to negotiate, then they still need to sign the contracts. For one thing, the venue still hasn't been finalized.
I remember Brian Kenny breaking the news on SportsCenter earlier this year that a fight between Mosley and Pacquiao was a done deal. ESPN has no credibility whatsoever when it comes to boxing. Stick to football.
What I can put together from all of the articles I've read is, Pac and Floyd have only agreed upon the date and split. Everything else is still up in the air and contracts have been signed by neither party.
i think it is a done deal. all that remains is the venue. I heard that arum will officially announce the fight by next monday
