The ATP Race rankings and the ATP calendar year rankings were two different rankings systems which ran concurrently.

The ATP Race rankings system determined which players entered the end of year ATP Tour Championship.

Those rankings were irrelevant to the actual ATP Rankings, which I've already given you the facts on a number of times now.

Sampras was graded on the same rankings as Federer. And was Number 1 for less time.

They play against each other only once. Federer won.

It happened in 2001 on Wimbledon. Sampras was a 4-time defending champion and Federer was a teenager. Roger won 3-2.

dude keeps thinking the exhibition match(es) from a few years ago counts lol. He admits that he doesn't follow tennis much but wants to keep arguing.

Yeah, even that's not true. The Exhibition you're so dearly clinging to

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Venetian_Macao_Tennis_Showdown

Despite it being an exhibition, and nobody of sane mind believing it was a serious event, he lost the 3 match exhibition 2 matches to 1 to Federer.

In the only competitive match they played, Federer beat him at Wimbledon. The argument that Sampras was old doesn't stand up either - because he won the US Open the following season.

so your argument is that is that Fed at 19 was Fed at his 'best'?

edit: and again, it was an exhibition part of their fed/pete world tour (pretty much). they only played once in competition.

Sampras was 29 when him and Fedbot played....
if you can't distinguish between exhibition and competition, we're done here lol. The only game that mattered between these 2 was back in 2001 and Federer won.

That's a weak argument though. Pete was dominant for twice as long as Fed yet has less weeks as #1, has less grandslam titles. Not to mention Pete never achieved anything close as 10 straight GS finals and 23 straight GS semis. Now that's longevity and excellence.

"In an all time rankins I'd have him possibly at 7 or 8"

lol, maybe you should follow tennis a bit more

Not surprised. ESPN caters to NBA, NFL and MLB. I just can't get behind athletes who throw and hit balls are better than those in combat sports. I'm too much of a fight fan.

You rate Loma above Floyd? Based on what? Beating a guy coming off a loss?
