And it's all about Andre Berto!! Please Berto fans don't get me wrong, he's doing his thing and I learned some things reading that story that makes him more interesting to me. But Berto? And of course, it basically acknowledges him as THE Welter Champ. But good to see a boxing feature in a major magazine none the less.:good Any body else see and read that?
thats great. I really think Berto is the next great boxer.once he kills Collazo, then he can fight Colttey, and if he wins that he gets a shot at the Cotto-Margarito winner!! who knows, Berto can be undisputed champ by end of 2009.
:good I learned a lot of **** about Berto I didn't know, and one thing I hadn't realized is dudes KO ratio. Only four fights have gone the distance and 2 of those were in his first couple fights (4 rounders). It just hit my mailbox yesterday, so it should be at News Stands if you want to check it out. The article is titled: "1,056 Days with Andre Berto". It says that four years ago they had an idea to find a promising prospect and follow him from his first days to stardom. After having quizzing many trainers, promoters, and boxing execs they "luckily" chose Berto. It is pretty interesting read. Starting with his early days where he would have to share a dressing room the size of an air plane cockpit with several fighters at Fair grounds in Arizona, Oklahoma, etc.. and ends up with him holding a title and show casing on HBO. And if I read this **** right, he still holds his day job!!!! Go Berto!!
Don't get me wrong there is what I meant. What I mean by that is this being the first big story for the Mag to put out on boxing in SOOOOOO long, I was surprised it wasn't about one of the "Super Duper Stars" or worse, bitching about boxing. So all good.:yep:deal
I got to be honest, I've only gotten to see Berto a few times. Def. took notice of him kicking the **** out of Estrada (same one who had Cintron crying on the ground at the end, even though he won) and lightin' up some lower tier dudes. Do you really think he could take down big strong ass Clottey or Margarito?? I also didn't know Berto started out at MW and dropped down hoping to one day get a shot at the likes of SSMosely, ODH, PBF, etc.
Just curious..what exactly are you basing this on? Collazo looked good against Hatton and arguably even beat him. He was looking good against Mosley too until he injured his left hand/thumb in the third round. Last time I saw him fight was on the undercard of Jones-Trinidad, where he was in against a limited opponent, but still looked extremely sharp (especially considering the layoff) and won every round of the fight. Though I did miss his most recent fight against Russell Jordan.
It's his mandatory so he doesn't really have a choice there, either take it or lose the belt. Not sure if this is true but didn't Berto TRY to make a fight against someone else(don't remember who) yet Collazo's team threatened to get him stripped?
