When ESPN fist went on the air. They held a Boxing Tourney. Can anyone remember who participated & won thier Division's? I'm pretty sure that's how Dwight Braxton made a name for himself. There where some others who came out on top. to make it to world class.
Forgive my ignorance (I am British), but were they the Inglewood Forum tournaments, or am I completely off the mark?
Seperate tournaments. Jesse ferguson won the heavyweight tournament, beating Buster Douglas in the final.
Fletcher won the middleweight title. I can't recall if Tommy Cordova won or not, but I think so. It just seems like he was always in tough fights but maybe it was that Roach fight for the tournament winner? I'd much rather watch those early ESPN bouts rebroadcast than those classics they've re-shown for a million years everyone has seen.
