Soviets couldn't fight professionally. Unless they defected...

Take Nikolay Korolyov. The Soviet champ they say who couldn't fight Joe Louis.

    -4X Absolute Soviet Champion.
    -9X Champion of the USSR.

There's one or two of those guys, amateurs who couldn't turn pro, but not as many as you'd think. Laszlo Papp, Teofilo Stevenson, and Felix Savon could have been important pros, but most of them don't rise to that level. Did you ever see the exhibition where Ali went to the USSR and fought their top three heavyweights back to back?

The same thing goes with the mythic European champs. They'd amass superhuman looking records fighting domestic level guys. Then if they went to America, the champ usually beat them. With the exception of a few like Marcel Cerdan or Duillio Loi they weren't all they were cracked up to be.
