I do live in a city, Vancouver, with enough things to do to--the cinematheque that I referred to is world class. But I think cities can be isolating, especially in our technologically-mediated society. There isn't much genuinely social happening out there.

Yeah, friends I used to have who've settled down live the more meaningless lives. People married with kids have lost all ambition. I don't give a damn about a career or family, and when you're not interested in that happiness is a bit harder to find.

I'm just saying I need to balance my life more.

I don't think Vancouver is the same as a place like Tokyo though. Tokyo is so welcoming where you can literally just make friends like that. My Dad's side of the family is originally from NY and I also felt that it was way harder to make friends in NY with complete strangers than it is where I live. If you do some google research about Tokyo locals and just meeting new people I'm pretty sure it'll back up what I say. A lot of foreigners come here because it's just easier, and they can wife some Japanese girl up. In Japan there's a term called Gaijin hunter. Gaijin is foreigner, where these Japanese girls want token foreigner boyfriends lol.

I feel like Vancouver is similar to NY or Boston where it's just genuinely odd to just strike up a conversation with a complete stranger with just the intentions to become friends.

But yeah, balance/moderation is definitely an important aspect of happiness. It's so much easier to just sit down and watch tv/boxing or **** post on a boxing forum instead of putting effort in a whatever hobby you might have or to get out of your comfort zone.

 

C'mon man. Can you just get over your grudge. No need to name call.
