Yes!!!!! I ****ing Love Perterson! He's not a psycho killer like Miadana or Bradley, he's not a physical specimen like Khan, he doesn`t have power like Mathysse. But he's one of the smartest most versitiles cats in boxing. I really like his boxing brain and can't wait till he's a trainer I'm sure he'd do very well at that.

Half an hour until Solo Boxeo on Telefutura, with Beibut Shumenov vs. Danny Santiago. See you all there.

In the meantime you can watch Serena Williams' ass vs. Maria Sharapova's ass...or Mariusz Wach vs. Kevin McBride which is about to start.

I went away from the computer during the fight. I (and I think the other poster) wasn't saying Cayo wasn't solid. He's a nice fighter. But he's definitely more of a stylist than being "fundamentally sound"

I didn't realize I was going to have to come on and support the argument that fighters don't all benefit from using the same textbook approach and can't all apply an orthodox style better than a preferred unorthodox style that they've developed, whenever they choose to. Your saying earlier that you can do the same thing with your hands up as down means you simply don't get the style to begin with and shouldn't be debating about it, on that point. Three question marks acting as if using unorthodoxy to your advantage when it's already your style is something irrational? Really? I'd say the rounds Cayo won were quite specifically because it's so difficult to read him...from his unorthodox style.

This conversation is down at an absurd level here, honestly. Why didn't RJJ just use the James Toney style, which would've served him better, later in life? Baffling. I don't know, because it's...not his ****ing developed style and doesn't play to his strengths? :conf It works the same on the B-level as the A-level. That he's not elite at it doesn't mean changing it is the only rational choice anymore than you don't take a good B-level orthodox fighter and say "That's not working, let's make you into a Darchinyan crab, see if that helps. Because this orthodox thing ain't working for you."

Have you never seen a trainer try to put a successful oddball through the textbook wringer and take away their strengths and have them end up worse off, applying a style that doesn't work for them?

Not as often as I've also seen a lot of trainers tighten flaws up and make a fighter a slightly better fighters long enough to get them another shot at the money.

im not reading all of this. Peterson wouldn't have found home with his right hand as easily in this fight if Cayo had a better guard and thats the end of it

I'm not sure if you've missed what we're talking about or simply decided to say something irrelevant to the discussion.

Okay, and if Lamont had a better lead left hook, he'd have won by a second round TKO. I mean, as long as we're pulling **** out of our asses and declaring it shinola. I'm glad the responses have started with "I don't understand the style I'm criticizing." and ended with "I don't care what you say but I know this would've happened because I'm a psychic." Time well-spent, here.

Yeah. I guess he was done....guess he didnt realize there was only 20+ seconds left on the clock. Not that he would have won on the cards.
