The standing 8 seems like it's a thing of the past...

 

It was too early and he should have given a 8 count, but Gonzalez was seriously stunned.

 

Americans rarely give people the quick stoppage, even if you get dicked over by the promotor with the judges.

Yup. That first left hand landed and Gonzalez looked done then there was a nice right hook, left hand and another big left. The ref saved Gonzalez from a very brutal ko.

 

Agree with you on this, the fact he didnt maybe explain the stoppage (aka "he was already gone there"), plus he didnt look to much upset about it.

 

Yep, I agree. Should have been a standing 8 count (you can see the referee was thinking about it a few seconds latter).

But he would have been stopped anyway.

I disagree. Stevenson landed some bombs on Gonzales and couldn't even knock him down. Stevenson might have shot his wad in that round. Of course I don't have a crystal ball so I could be wrong. I just didn't see Stevenson pulling a Julian Jackson ala Herol Graham or Terry Norris against Gonzales.
