    Tessitore: Tell us how you went about that attack in the 2nd round.

    Stevenson: I am not the referee. He made that decision himself. It is not my decision.

    Tessitore: Let's not talk about that just yet. How did you set up that final barrage of punches.

    Stevenson: I just...know I got him. Keep going. I shake him. Left hook. You know?

    Atlas: Looked like a straight left hand to me, not a left hook.

    Stevenson: OK. Whatever.

    Atlas: I notice Gonzalez likes to put up that peekaboo and cover up and I figured once you pried that apart and could get some punches going you could get him in trouble by just keeping it on him, is that how you felt?

    Stevenson: Yes, I jab and jab, and when I see a mistake I keep going with combination and that's it. I did a good job.

    Atlas: You have a famous trainer. His name is Emanuel Steward.

    Stevenson: Uh-huh. Haha. Yeah.

    Atlas: Does he help you more with the physical mechanics of boxing or more on the mental side?

    Stevenson: Both. Both. He helps me with advice, and tells me things about my balance and movement. He is the best trainer.

    I completely agree.

    I'm so glad a fight like Gatti vs Ward I had the ref it had, cause had that fight happened (if it was relevant/made sense obviously) circa 2011-2012 the ref would've robbed us of the classic that turned out to be.

    Fighters are literally being robbed at times when things like the standing 8 aren't used when they could be.

    According to Ortiz, his first fight with Berto wasn't close at all.

    ..and that's his argument for himself in the rematch.

    I mean, I really can't complain too much because it's in the interest of the fighter's safety. . . But at the same time, you're right too. . . It's just one of the dynamics in boxing you always gotta take into account. . .

    Smoger should ref fights that have a potential to be very heavy "two-way" action type fights, because I think he's got an exellent handle on when a fight needs to be stopped. . . He'll give a fighter just about every chance, but at the same time, he knows when "enough is enough."
