    40-36 Alvarez

    Alvarez has very good, tight, compact punching technique for someone with only seven pro fights. And he puts those punches together into some pretty nice combinations. It's not a great fight, but it's a good little showcase so far.

    Alvarez continues to jab nicely to the body and head while gliding to his left and letting Saunders wander into range behind his guard while tilted backward. Alvarez is landing well despite Saunders' spoiling. Right hand, left hook combo by Alvarez - hitting glove but causing Saunders to lean involuntarily further back and compromise his balance a bit. Saunders is throwing almost nothing back. More jabs by Alvarez. Fat, wide 1-2 by Saunders - the right grazing Alvarez as he ducks and rolls, then counters with a jab.

    Slapping hooks around the side as Saunders comes forward and increases his activity level. Alvarez shows he can jab as well backing up, still crisp and accurate and getting his own guard up to net out those slapping hooks. Nice 1-2 to the body by Alvarez while quickly turning Saunders with a bounce step. Double jab to the guard, then a right downstairs and a big straight flurry charging forward by Alvarez. Wide slapping hook by Saunders, and Alvarez bends to the side and counters. Nice jabs floating left by Alvarez.
