Usmanee is rocked by a left hook but undeterred. Usmanee is brushing at the body as Mendez backs up and shoeshines low, then brings up a flush left hook to the chin. Mendez snaps his jab out past Usmanee's, using his elbows and forearms to catch shots. Mendez leans forward, resting on Usmanee and then hooking him in the side. Usmanee shakes his head at him. Double right hand to the face by Mendez before getting out of Dodge. Usmanee chases, forking a jab to the body but falling short as Mendez pull-counters with the right.

Usmanee chases Mendez to the ropes and falls down swinging at him. Body shots and reach-overs by Usmanee. Mendez backs up, pushes away with the jab unrolled, and works in uppercuts and hooks downstairs with his body ramped on Usmanee's. They trade slaps to the body on the inside. Mendez slides back and catches Usmanee above the left ear. Mendez backs up and draws Usmanee onto his jab, face-first. Usmanee is shaking his head again - though whether at himself or to make Mendez think he isn't feeling his power isn't clear. Beads of sweat are sent flying off Usmanee's head as Mendez finds the mark with a counter burst. Usmanee is spun and knocked into the turnbuckle at the bell.

Usmanee is throwing a very high volume of light body shots and pumping jabs futilely into Mendez's guard. Mendez turns on the ropes and pivots into counter hooks landing on the ribcage and skull of Usmanee. Mendez dances from one set of ropes to another, drawing Usmanee onto counter right hands. Mendez leans over, ducking an Usmanee right, then misses a pair of shots as they pull apart. Mendez backs up and throws a right hand, missing and quickly dodging an Usmanee left hook. Right by Usmanee blocked.
