I came in late, for the start of the 4th round. I gave Dib Rounds 4-9 (only the 8th was close enough to debate), and Oliver Round 10, based on his work in the first minute of the round which Dib didn't do much to overcome. Based on Atlas' scoring of the first 3 rounds for Oliver by 3 net points, I had Dib winning this by 2 points, 95-93. I see this as a very good win for Dib because of the adversity of the two 1-point deductions early on, and being essentially unable to throw body shots for the rest of the fight. I do not think it all adds up to enough to beat Gradovich in a rematch if it happens, but at least now apparently the path is clear for it to happen.

I thought the first one was very harsh, Dib had no major shots go low before that and it seemed more of a skimming shot. Oliver started running around the ring after Ortega called break and after doing 3-4 laps then jumped to the canvas......imo he was absolutely fine and possibly as Teddy pointed out a little hurt by the body shot beforehand.

The 2nd one was low and he had gone low before so fair enough. But can you really justify Ortega not taking a point (or 3) from Oliver for holding ?, he was at it all fight, Ortega warned him twice he'd take a point if it continued, continued to warn him and yet did nothing other than just break the fighters. He also repeatedly warned Oliver for ducking low with his head. So for me while points being taken from Dib was fair, points not being taken from Oliver was not.

Your other point is bang on however, bad fight and result for Dib.

Scores were decent. Oliver was tougher than expected, but I think the reason why this was close had more to do with Dib's lack of imagination (as well as the entirely deserved point deductions...second one, at any rate.).

I'm glad people say the point deductions were fair...

But those same people will likely whine about JMM (also deservedly) getting points deducted against Chris John.

Gotta love inconsistency among sports fans. Boxing magnifies it...

If you can't spark Mike Oliver.. you aren't Elite, and you ain't even A-level.

I'm a huge Marquez cheerleader but have always maintained that everything about the John result was fair & square.

Dude, nobody has ever said that Dib was A level.

I think even his family members would have described him as a B+, not A, level fighter.

Besides, even if you can spark out Oliver with devastating ease, it don't mean too much... Juanma...

    "Marquez cheerleader"

    haha, nice...

:nono You should watch it again IB or do a Round by Round on that one to see how you scored each round. No way John won more than 3 rounds. As if they don't score bodyshots in Indonesia. Jmm was making Lizard man walk funny in the last rounds too. One of the worst decisions ever. John an exceptional fighter, yes, but no where else in the world would he have gotten that joke of a decision. Horrible decision.

    ...

I've watched that fight 4 times from start to finish. I always wound up with a draw in terms of rounds, which means Chris John by 2 points.

On my most recent watch I scored it 7-5 John, so John by 4 points. I thought he won as many decisive rounds as JMM did and edged the close rounds with activity. Funny you mention body work, I thought that is what helped sway the close rounds mostly in John's favor. JMM's performance in that fight is highly overrated and when all is said and done will be the fight to look back on to show JMM's weaknesses in his prime.

I really like both fighters. No rooting interest. I just have no freaking clue how the sentiment is the way it is regarding this fight. I swear of all the highly talked about recent fights, THIS is the one that nobody actually bothered to watch. They just read what people have to say about it and BOOM!

It is classic boxing talk; people look to hear something to pass on and look for something to fancy about to further their agenda (even just personal fanhood).

"Vitali KO's everyone, look at his KO%!" so everyone thinks Vitali is a monstrous KO artist.

"Greb is the GOAT, of course there's no video, that's why it's more hipster and cool for me to say that" so everyone thinks Greb is the GOAT despite never once seeing him fight.

"Dempsey/Willard caused Jeffries' face to be badly disfigured" so everyone goes along with it despite any and all news sources and interviews I have read with Willard himself describing it as nothing more than a heavy beating, but by no means the historic uproar it has become over the years.

"Duran KO'd a horse" so everyone thinks Duran KO'd a horse.

"JMM has never lost a real fight! He was robbed by the obscure Indonesian, which is obvious because JMM has never lost a real fight and the Floyd fight doesn't count since it was at WW and JMM will never go on to beat anyone which can ever make that victory relevant" so everyone goes along with it.
