Gonzalez is backing up and painting Mendoza's face with the right jab. Mendoza tries muscling Gonzalez into the ropes and working uppercuts. Gonzalez leans back into the ropes, making him miss. Big left hook up top by Mendoza, grazing. Gonzalez is sticking the right jab and circling to his right. Mendoza lunges with a right hand and Gonzalez tilts his head to his left, catching the punch in his neck purposefully, like a hack-y-sack, before releasing it with a slight jerk the other way. Gonzalez is leaning back to slip the power straights of Mendoza while sticking him with right jabs.

Atlas thought that was "all in all a great round for Mendoza".

If that is what qualifies as a great round for him in this match-up, he is en route to getting shut clean out.

 

Round 3

Gonzalez is putting out right jabs and bringing left uppercuts in on Mendoza's body. Gonzalez is lingering close to Mendoza, those uppercuts coming dangerously close. Mendoza connects! He drives Gonzalez into the ropes and throws hard straight rights and left hooks as Gonzalez wriggles his upper body and covers up, flurrying down at Mendoza, working off that right jab. Left uppercuts on the body by Gonzalez. Mendoza is stumbling in and out, balance very poor, loading up on big uppercuts as he gets close. Gonzalez is rolling and countering in the pocket, slick and fluid, almost boneless, channeling James Toney as Mendoza spams him with hooks and uppercuts.

10-9 Gonzalez, survived that rally a minute in and managed to clearly outbox Mendoza before and afterward.
