10-0 (8.) Dominic Wade vs. 4-0 (2) Grover Young

 

Round 1

Wade flicks out jabs from a loose guard at mid range. The southpaw Young keeps his right wrist shielding his face as he comes forward and tries to hook up high. They take turns moving forward and leading, both having a lot of their shots blocked. Young steps inside and gets off a short three punch combo, barking. Wade is barking back and landing short volleys of straight shots that don't seem to have much on them. Guard-splitting jab by Wade now, after Young has his mouthpiece replaced. Young throws his right jab and puts left hands behind it as Wade covers up. Wade now comes forward with left jabs (and hooks) and right crosses.

Pretty even round.

 

Round 2

Wade is coming forward and clapping either fist around from the side. Young is backing up and leaving a trail of jabs for Wade to follow. Wade waits until Young stops jabbing and bangs him into the ropes with hard combos. Wade is really sitting down on his shots now and is liable to go hoarse with all that gravelly barking. Young is trying to time him but getting outfought and outlanded. Young loses his mouthpiece again. Atlas suggests that Young isn't biting down hard enough. Wade lands a 2-3-2 combo over and over again as he drives Young into the ropes. Wade explodes on him with several power punches and Young catches him with one good right hand but other than that it's been all Wade.

Round 3

Wade is warned to keep his punches up. He then starts jabbing high and backing Young up to the perimeter. Wade walks him into the opposite corner and pecks away with stiff jabs and rights. Young is trying to dig down to the body with golf-club slices but Wade is just spanking him back with quicker body shots and the reliable 1-2 down the middle up high. Young is trapped on the ropes and tries to flurry off but Wade picks him off and pins him down with several straight punches.

Yeah, the 80% KO ratio is probably the product of a bit of padding.

He has emerged in the last several minutes as the classier talent here, though. When he puts his mind to it, he knows how to throw a punch.
