OK, next. Elvin Ayala vs. Joe Gardner, going 6 rounds at SMW.

 

Round 1

Ayala looks a bit malnourished at the weight. He's jabbing out of a low-shoulder stance, but not commanding much respect with the jab. Gardner is circling around him, stalking and throwing right hands. Gardner looks HUGE in comparison. Gardner's right hands are blocked but moving Ayala; he's definitely stronger. Gardner thumps his chest with his glove and eggs Ayala on, trying to get him to brawl. BIG right hand from outside by Gardner. Ayala flurries back. Gardner comes wading in with slow 1-2s that miss but is chasing Ayala away with them. Gardner starts swiping with hooks first and the putting crosses behind them coming forward and then dancing out of range. Ayala lands a body shot. NICE lead right by Ayala, reaching up to Gardner's chin. Ayala looks the better and calmer boxer, but weaker.

Round 2

Gardner is attacking with double jabs while circling on the outside. Ayala is throwing big wide hooks (with his arm stretched all the way out as they start their journey) and doubling and tripling them up, sweeping Gardner out of his path. Gardner is using pretty good footwork to stay on the outside and avoid the hooks, and hitting Ayala with double jabs to the face and rights to the body. Ayala tries a 1-2 down low. Gardner comes in punching and pulls Ayala's head down into a clinch. Ayala has several jabs blocked. Wild hooks from Ayala, missing. Gardner catches him into a clinch and whacks him in the body with his right.

Round 3

Gardner is working the jab but pulling it back low, and Ayala exploits this by popping him in the face with a quick high-reaching lead right. Ayala now comes forward and works his jab on an upward plane. Gardner misses a hook as they collide into a brief clinch. Ayala slips a few jabs and paws with his own. Neither landing. Ayala ducks and charges in laterally with a pair of uppercuts to the body. Ayala is warned for hitting on the break. Gardner double jabs the air; Ayala single jabs his face. Gardner's feet are a little less nimble now, as he keeps circling in more staggered motions. Gardner's jabs are all falling well short now, and Ayala is simply ducking off to the side to easily avoid his rights. Ayala stands right in front of him and lands a jab to the face and pair of straight punches to the body. Big flurry from Ayala coming forward in a crouch.
